His name was Alexander.

He wore a black button up shirt with dark jeans and tennis shoes. His hair was gelled and styled in a wavy fashion. His face, clean shaven and defined, was chiseled and handsome. His eyes were soft and curious. He looked like a college student, and I figured him to be since he was hanging around the dorms. He smiled at me, exposing his white teeth and his rather refreshing smile.

"I heard the crash. Where's the murderer?"

"What?" I asked, but then I remembered the books and the desk and the nonexistent caring. I scratched the back of my neck, looking down. I looked terrible, I had noticed. "Oh, that."

He raised an eyebrow, amused.

"You okay?"

"Uh...yes?" I forced myself to look at him again. Young, handsome and curious. What a catch.

He laughed. I found myself smiling slightly at the sound of it. Laughter came rarely in mine and Meg's apartment. The tension between us had risen quite a lot since I had moved in. It had been a month, and things weren't looking up.

"I'm Alex. What's your name?" He held out his hand, and I found myself shaking it. His hands felt firm and they were almost the size of mine.

Nothing like his.

"I'm Scott. Sorry to bother you with the murderer," I shrugged. He laughed again, and I looked down to smile at our feet.

"No trouble. I was just going to make sure that Meghan was okay, but no. Her cute roommate came to answer the door." He then blushed a bit, and he laughed nervously. "Oops."

"The cute roommate was just about to have a shower and go out to have some fun. Care to join me?" I was surprised as the words came out of my mouth. But I didn't feel doubtful or scared when I had said them. Not after, either. They came out confidently. Alex bit his lip, before nodding.

"I'd love to."

I smiled at him, before hesitantly opening the door wider for him to enter. He saw components from the desk scattered across the ground, and he smirked at me again.

"Some murder suspect."

"Please," I said coyly. "The only thing that's dead here is my social status as of late." He raised an eyebrow, smirking still.

"We can fix that. Now go shower. I'm looking forward to see what you look like out of sweatpants and a t-shirt."

I found my face flushing as I walked down the hallways, back turned to him.

I turned the shower on, positioning the handle on the 'hot' side.

And for the first time in a while, I was able to push the brunette man that I once knew out of my thoughts without a care in the world.
