Chapter 12- the arena

The whole morning went so fast and I couldn't even really register what was happening. All I know is that right now we are being piled into the hovercraft.

I take my seat opposite Mabel. I think about getting up and running away. I would rather be dead now than this. The hovercraft takes off and a women comes to inject our trackers. it hurts but I'm to numb to feel anything right now.

It wasn't along journey because soon we were at the arena. we didn't have a chance to see it obviously because we were taken underground and up to our tubes.

I stood there silently. I didn't care about anything. I just wanted to get in that arena and step off my platform blow up and have done with it.

60 seconds.

60 seconds.

What am I thinking

I have to try

I have to make her proud.

50 seconds

I walk towards the tube.

I stand inside it and close my eyes

30 ..

I take a Deep breath and the tube starts to rise up.

I look round me the circle is huge since there are so many of us. Mabel is right beside me.

The arena istself is just a field with the cornucopia in the middle. to my left it seemed to turn into desert. and in y right it seemed to turn into snow.
And inbtween it was forest.

Then something that hasn't happened for years happens.

Probably since the first ever games.

The little girl from 3 steps if her platform ..

The bang is so loud it leaves my ears ringing

Flames and smoke engulf her podiu and the earth shakes

And not just her gets blown up

Her whole family.

And the other district 3 family .

All 7 of them. gone.

I was too busy staring at the mess of blood and bodies and smoke and earth to realise the countdown had finished

Something smashed into the side of my head. not hard enough to knock me though.

I sprung into action. I turned around. oh fun it was a tribute who had already been to the cornucopia and back. I had just my fists.

Then i saw it

My bow , hunger over his shoulder

He stood there looking at me.

He was waiting fr me to react

And god he wasn't expecting what I did. I leaned over and pulled an arrow out of its holder and stabbed him.

Straight in his heart.

He stared at his chest as fell to his knees.

" Effing twelve " he muttered or something like that.

Thanks for the weapons I smiled taking his back pack, sword and his bow and arrows.

Suddenly the screams and shouts that I had been blockin out became impossible to ignore. I turned around to see some girl running towards me with a knife.

I ran.
Faster than I have ever ran before.

I ran and ran until I could no longer hear her footsteps.

Then I fell face first into a river.

I got up and out and thought.

Ok I'm in the forest bit.

Everyone else probably Is too.

So I need to get out.

I opened up the rucksack to find gloves and a coat.

Cold climate it is
