Rodolph was always in love with the feisty Bellatrix. From the moment she ordered him to buy her a Chocolate Frog on the Hogwarts Express when they were just eleven up even to seeing her obsess over the Dark Lord with a crazed passion. He was always the shadow to her inferno - but he loved her. Voldemort knew the extent of Bellatrix's feelings for him and exploited this. She was the most trusted because Lord Voldemort realised love meant loyalty - more loyalty than even fear could generate. Bellatrix yearned for Voldemort but could never be with him as he was a half-blood, Rodolph was never enough to satisfy her intellectually but he loved her and that would have to do. None of them were truly happy with this arrangement (Voldemort because he had to rely on Bellatrix's love which appeared to appease Dumbledore's argument) but it was better than nothing.
