Chapter 8 - Home

"Gray you need to stay, you can't wake her up" I hear someone whisper.
"Well what do we do if she wakes up at 11am?" Another voice whispers.
"Then you'll lay there to 11am"
"Bro I can't wait 2 hours to do something"
The two voices start sounding like someone I've heard before.
I open my eyes and see Ethan sitting on a chair just beside the couch.
"Oh great Gray you woke her up" he says and looks mad at Grayson.
"It's not my fault, you were the one who woke me up!" Grayson says.
"I'm sorry" Ethan says.
"Guys, what happened last night?" I ask and stand up carefully.
"You were falling asleep on my shoulder, and that made me really tired, so I fall asleep too" Grayson says and gets up too.
"Omg my dad is going to freak out" I say and find my phone in my pocket.
"Great it's dead. Can I borrow a charger?" I ask.
"Sure" Ethan says and runs into his room and comes back with a charger.
"Thank you" I say and find a place my phone can be charged.
"I'm sorry if I did something wrong" Grayson says.
"Oh you didn't, I should just have walked home" I say and look at my phone. It's not starting. My phone has never been dead before. I'm normally home, and not used to use my phone all the time. Is it normal that it's not opening?
"I was the one telling you not to" he says and sits down beside me.
"I'm serious Gray, it's not your fault" I say and look at him.
"Guys while you wait for your phone to unlock, shall we eat some breakfast?" Ethan asks.
"Heck yeah! I'm starving!" I yell and run over to Ethan.
"What's on the menu?" I ask and look interested at the table.
"Toast with peanut butter" he says and gives me a big smile.
"I'm coming!" Grayson yells and runs over to us.

"Omg I totally forgot about my phone" I gasp and run over to my phone.
"My dad has called 9 times!" I yell and start freaking out.
"Call him back?" Ethan says and is totally chill. How can he be? My dad could have called the police, and tried finding me!

My phone starts ringing my dad up, and I get nervous when he doesn't reply.
I call him again, and then again, and one more time, before he picks up his phone.
"Honey! Where are you?" He asks immediately.
"I'm at my friends, I'm so sorry I didn't tell you anything yesterday! I fell asleep after trying to call you" I say.
"Oh I'm just happy that you are safe!" He says and I smile.
"I'm fine, thank you for caring" I say.
"So what friends are we talking about?" He asks and this time a little bit more seriously.
"Two guys called Grayson and Ethan, they are totally cool" I say trying to make it feel safe.
"How cool? Are we talking as much cool as your dad cool?" He asks and I laugh.
"No one is as cool as you dad" I say.
"That's good to hear" he says and I can see his big smile through my thoughts.
"Can you come get me?" I ask.
"Well I really want to, but I have work" he says.
"Oh that's okay, I'll just walk home" I say.
"Good girl, I'll see you in the evening" he says.
"Bye" I say and hung up.
I place my phone on the carpet, where it was before in the charger.
"So? Is he coming?" Grayson asks and I look at him.
"No, I'm going home by myself" I say and stand up.
"Do you wanna stay for a bit?" Ethan asks.
"I would love to, but I think it would be for the best if I go home now. Is that okay?" I say and walk over to my skateboard.
"Sure" they say at the same time. We start laughing and I take my skateboard in my hand.
"Do you need us to follow you home?" Ethan asks.
"No I'm good, but thank you" I say.
"Bye Maddie it was so nice hanging out with you!" Grayson says and gives me a hug. I smile and hug him back.
I feel good hugging him, he smells like last night when I fall asleep on his shoulder.
"Yeah you're fun hanging out with" Ethan says and gives me a hug too. It's kinda awkward but I slip it away and hug him as tight as possible. He starts laughing and I let him go.
"I hope I'll see you soon!" I say and wave at them.
"For sure!" Grayson yells and I walk out of the front door.
I smile at them and close the door. It has been fun, I have tried some new things, and it's cool.
I walk down the stairs and out of the building. When the door closes behind me and I put down my skateboard I hear someone yelling my name. I look back and see Ethan running at me.
"You forgot your phone!" He yells and puts my phone in the air.
"Oh thank you!" I say and take the phone.
"You're welcome" he says and smiles.
"Drive home safe" he says and I laugh.
"I'll try my best" I say and stand up on the board.
"Bye!" He yells and waves. I wave back and ride home.
