Deviant gazed upon the beaten boy in absolute horror, mouth open in shock.
It couldn't be him. There was no way it was him.
The slumped over figure finally lifted his head. Dull blue orbs contrasted greatly from the dark purple bruise that decorated his eye. His pale skin was covered in smudged warpaint and dirt, a bit of blood dried on his arm that led up to a nasty cut just about his elbow. Somehow, even though he was clearly exhausted and in pain, there was still that smug glint in his eyes; still managed to leave Deviant momentarily breathless.
He was still beautiful."Andy?" Deviant whispered, quiet enough that no one in the room heard.
"The little prophet thought he could break him and his friend out of the dungeons... We had to teach him not to disobey..." The cloaked figure that was mysteriously hidden from the light drawled in amusement, glancing over at Andy. He grinned, displaying his yellow and crooked teeth. "He must learn. She is safe here with us... Safe from your lies, your false promises, safe from false hope. Here, she has certainty... She no longer has to place her life in the hands of mere rebels."
Andy visibly grew agitated, gritting his teeth together. Deviant gave him a look, trying to convey to him that at the current point in time, attitude wasn't going to get him anywhere.
"You are so full of bullshit!" Andy snapped.
And the message wasn't received. The guard to his right gave him a sharp kick in the side, causing Andy to tumble back on to his side.
"Watch your mouth, boy..." The cloaked man warned.
Andy lifted his head a bit, spitting a bit of blood from his mouth before meeting the mans hooded gaze. He said nothing.
"Good. Now what do you have to say for yourself, Prophet?" He leaned back in the throne on which he was perched. Andy's lips pulled back into a smile, teeth showing the slightest bit of stained blood."Go fuck yourself." He said, voice ever-so sweet.
If it weren't for the current dilemma at hand, Deviant would have chuckled. Maybe even scolded Andy for his attitude, but instead his heart wrenched, watching the guard stomp their foot down onto Andy's back, forcing him to lay face down. Andy let out a yelp, face twisting up into discomfort.
Deviant wanted to run to him and help, but he was frozen where he stood. The air was tense as the silence drew on. No one said a word. Not even Andy. The cloaked figure stood and stepped down, walking slowly to Andy. He stopped in front of him and crouched down, still towering over him as Andy was still pinned down. Sickly pale fingers hooked under Andy's chin, lifting his face.
"Such a trouble-maker..." He murmured, then all of a sudden dropped his fingers and walked away, speaking one final time before leaving. "Execute him."Execute him.
The words echoed; bounced around in Deviant's head before he could fully register them.
"Go ahead, you coward..." Andy snorted. "I'll just regenera-"
"No!" Deviant finally cut in. "No, you won't."
Andy turned his gaze to Deviant, confusion dawning on his expression. "Wait, what?"
"You- You won't." Deviant looked over at the guards and then at Andy, before going to follow the cloaked man. When he returned, he looked at the guards grimly."Give me a few minutes with him. Please."
The guard narrowed his eyes and stepped out of the room with his companion, closing the large door and leaving Deviant alone with Andy.
Andy watched Deviant approach him with large, scared eyes that almost melted Deviant's heart. He was so innocent and lost in such a strange world...
"What do you mean I won't regenerate, Ashley." Andy whispered. Deviant grimaced at the usage of his real-world name, helping Andy sit up against the wall. "This is a game- The execution isn't real."
Deviant sat next to him and looked away.
"But you're not in the game coding. You aren't supposed to be in this world... If you die in this world, you'll be erased."
"But I'll wake up in the rea-"
"No, if you die here, you won't wake up. You're here in your human form. You're not a computer generated version of yourself... You're you. There's only one you." He explained softly.
Andy covered his mouth with his hands, hot tears spilling over his cheeks and leaving marks through the dirt. Deviant pulled him into his arms tightly, burying his face in his hair.
"I'm sorry... I brought you here." He breathed. "I'm going to get you out. I won't let you die here, I promise, Andy. Okay? I promise..."Andy squeezed his eyes shut and pursed his lips, refusing to let himself continue crying. Deviant made a promise, and he'd keep it. He knew he would. Andy nodded and lifted his head. He saw, through his teary vision, the guards returning with what looked to be a very sharp blade. He was unsure of what kind, but he knew from the way it glinted in the dim light that it was incredibly sharp.
"You- You said you wouldn't let me-"
"I'm not..." Deviant whispered and stood. "I'm going to get you and Eve out of here..."
Andy's eyes widened, and he pulled himself to stand shakily, grabbing him. "No, don't, please, don't-"
He was cut off by the sensation of Deviant softly pressing his lips to Andy's. The kiss was slow, gentle; it was sweet and loving. It didn't last long enough.
Deviant pulled away and mouthed 'I love you' as he was being lead back to the center of the room by the guards.Andy felt small arms around him and looked to see Eve had been brought up from the dungeons. She buried her face in his chest. "I can't watch." She whispered.
Andy looked over to Deviant and saw him give one last sad smile. He looked back ahead and knelt down.
"Deviant, no!" Eve screamed, but Andy grabbed her head and forced her to look away, doing the same. They could hear the sickening sound of a slicing blade, and the collapsing of a body to the floor.
Andy held Eve tighter as she sobbed brokenly, breaking away from Andy and running to Deviant's body.
Andy looked up slowly, watching as the guards left them alone again. He watched Deviants body slowly fade away, a single tear falling down his cheek as he reached a hand out to touch the tiny pixels as they floated away. Eve tried to grab at them, screaming and crying for him to come back; to not leave. All Andy did was stand there like a fool and watch. He was numb.
Did this all just happen?
Was this his fault?
"Prophet?" Eve choked, standing up. "H.. He would've wanted you to have this."
Andy looked as she held out a chain necklace, a small star pendent attached to the end. He picked it up and slowly put it on over his head. He looked up at Eve and pulled her in for a tight hug. "It's going to be okay..." He whispered shakily.
They stood like that for a while longer, tightly in each others arms, before finding their way out of the dark structure. They were met by a large group, all from different rebel camps.
Mystic stood at the front and turned to look.
"Prophet? Eve?" His eyes widened, running to them. "You guys are alive- Prophet, what happened to you? We need to get you to the medical tent immediately." Mystic rambled on, examining his wounds. Andy said nothing, standing silently. Destroyer approached them, slowly and hesitantly.
"Where's Deviant?"
Eve covered her mouth to quiet a whimper, turning away and hugging herself with her other arm. Mystic's eyes saddened when he saw the necklace that hung around Andy's neck, lifting it with delicate fingers.
"Did he..."
"He did it for us..." Andy whispered brokenly. "It's all my fault..."
Destroyer swallowed the lump in his throat and looked at the uneasy group."We need to get back to the camp..."
