We headed out in the morning, to start looking for Christa, Ryan, and supplies.
It seemed like the more we were adding to our list of things to find, the harder they were to find. After hours of looking around with basically no luck at all, we all sat down to take a break. It was still daylight out, but the sun was going to be setting soon, so we were going to eat and then find somewhere to stay for the night. We sat in an alley against a wall.
Erica sighed as she unzipped our bag of food. “We didn’t find anything.”
“We found a little food,” Apple said, trying to lighten the mood.
“It’s not even enough for one person, Alex,” Erica said, sounded annoyed and tired. Apple didn’t argue with Erica.
“The area has been sucked of its resources,” Calvin said softly as he played with his weapon.
Erica began to hand out food as she said, “Yeah, it would have been nice to know that before we spent all day looking.”
“Because I’m supposed to know there isn’t anything here,” Calvin said sarcastically.
Erica rolled her eyes. Everyone got some food and began to slowly nibble on it, but Erica was just staring into the bag. “Wait… how much food did we get yesterday?”
Apple finished chewing before she responded with, “Enough food for a week.”
Erica furrowed her brow as she stared down into the bag. She stuck her hand in the bag and moved some stuff around. “You guys didn’t have any problems when you had watch, right?”
Apple looked over at me, but I didn’t know what to say. We didn’t, it was a really quiet night, but for some reason if I said that I felt like I’d get in trouble. “Ah,” Apple said slowly. “No….”
“Well,” Erica turned the bag upside down and dumped everything. “Where the hell is all our food?”
Apple got up on her knees and crawled over to the small pile of food. She used the hand that wasn’t holding food to shuffle through the pile and count the food. When she finished, she frowned, and said under her breath, “What the hell?”
“What? What’s going on?” Calvin asked, but not moving.
“We only have enough food for two more days!” Apple exclaimed.
Calvin’s eyes grew wide and he jumped up to see for himself. “You have got to be kidding me!”
“Are you sure you didn’t have an issue last night?” Erica asked, looking angry as she crossed her arms and glared at Apple.
Apple looked up at Erica and got an offended look on her face. “I’m positive. Jeeze, Erica, no need to get royally pissed at me.”
Erica’s eyes widened as if she couldn’t believe her ears. “Who else am I going to get upset with? The only other people who had watch besides me were you and Clementine!”
“Well what about you? Did you have any issues?” Apple demanded.
“No,” Erica said in a matter-of-fact tone. “Actually, it was a really quiet night for me.”
Apple’s eyebrows rose as she said, “And it was for me too!”
Erica rolled her eyes. “Bullshit.”
Apple looked like she was about to attack Erica but Calvin spoke up and distracted the girls. “Look,” he said. “Now is not the time to get upset. We don’t want to attract any unwanted company.”
Erica still looked angry but didn’t say anything.
“Come on, we need to find shelter,” Calvin said.
We decided to go back to the old shelter, but tonight was the last night we were going to stay there. When I asked why, Apple just told me not to worry about it until tomorrow, so I didn’t bring it up again.
Apple and Erica were both really tired because they were the ones who had to climb, push, and fight when we were looking for supplies, so they said they shouldn’t take first watch. So Calvin volunteered, but Erica said I should go outside with him to help. I didn’t fight—I felt excited to be trusted like this two nights in a row.
At first, it was kind of awkward and quiet because Calvin has always been awkward and quiet. But after a little bit Calvin began to talk and we were joking around and talking. It was really dark before I remembered that Apple wanted me to talk to Calvin about her—er, about what he likes. Not wanting to forget about it again, I brought it up.
“Calvin?” I said.
“Hm?’ he responded.
“You know how you said you don’t like Apple?”
He blinked and furrowed his brow. “Uh, I never said that…”
“I mean you said that she was too young and stuff,” I corrected myself.
Calvin gave me a weird look before nodding.
“What do you like?” I asked.
Calvin was silent for a while. When I looked over at him to see if he heard me, he had a look on his face like he couldn’t believe I had just asked that.
“You mean like, in women?” he asked, sounding really uncomfortable and thrown off by my question.
“Uh, yeah,” I nodded.
Calvin shifted uncomfortably. “Um, Clem—h-how old are you? Ten?”
“Nine,” I told him.
“May I ask why a nine year old would like to know my—uh, p-preferences in women?”
“I dunno,” I said, not able to come up with a reason.
Calvin coughed and shifted again. “This isn’t really a t-topic for you, Clem.”
I felt disappointed that he didn’t tell me. “But—“
“Moving on,” Calvin cut me off, looking in a different direction.
He changed the subject and I didn’t bother to bring it up again that night.

It's great that I have fans for this book.
It's fantastic.
I love you all.
BUT IF YOU KEEP COMMENTING FOR ME TO POST SOON, I'M GOING TO DIE.
I have to balance school with work and a social life! Do you realize how hard it is to juggle those three things AND find time to write?! It's impossible!
But I'll still try.
For you guys. :)
