Last Day of Normalcy

The doctor comes in at six the next morning with my release papers that mom signs. Mom showed up when she got off work this morning at the other end of the hospital about twenty minutes ago. I haven’t talked to her since last night. The doctor says I’m free to leave and that nurse comes in and gets me in a wheelchair to take me to mom’s car.

Mom drives me to Delilah High and I get out quick. Yeah because my mom driving me to school is totally normal. She fallows me out of the car and into the office. The office people are all happy and preppy this morning. “My daughter Kylie is going to be gone for a long while due to her mental disorder. How do I do that with the school?” They look at me and smile at my mom.

“We can get her some transfer papers if you’d like.” Mom shakes her head.

“No no. See I’m sending her to a mental health hospital to help her, not to family.”

“Oh! Well we can do a temporary transfer or a full transfer of her records up there. How long do you think she will be up there?” They start searching the cabinets for paper work.

“We don’t know how long she’ll be there, I guess till she’s safe stable enough to be in a normal environment again and actually takes her medicine like she’s supposed to. We want her to be able to come back and do things here if she’s good and gets permission from her mental health center like Project graduation and the Disney trip for choir.” The office lady nods her head and hands mom the paper work. “Kylie you can go do whatever you need to before school starts, I don’t need you for the paper work.” With that queue, I leave to my locker.

“Kylie! Your back! I missed you! What happened?” Sapphire runs up to me and hugs me.

“I was in the hospital. The lady told me to kill myself and I listened so now I won’t get to see you for a long time, because Mom’s sending me to a loony bin. I’m scared Sapphire! I don’t want to go to a loony bin. I’m not insane!!! Am I?” I cry into her shoulder and she holds me and tries to calm me down by saying sweet nothings and petting my hair. I sit down at my locker and switch out the books before closing it and heading to the courtyard. The few people who actually talk to me came and hugged me and asked tons of questions so I explained what happened again. By the time I get done explaining the story for like the hundredth time its two minutes before the bell rings so I walk to my first hour early so I can talk to the teacher.

“Mr. Jones. I need to tell you that after today I might not be back in your class and that you probably won’t see me again till graduation. My mom’s sending me to a loony bin to stabilize me for the schizophrenia.” He nods his head.

“You are an amazing student and I will miss seeing you in my class in the mornings. Get yourself stabilized and I expect to see you back here for project graduation. Now go to your seat and let’s start class.” He shoes me away and starts his lecture. Even the teachers in my AP English 12and Pre-calculus class say the same. Mrs. Burrows not much different but I like how she words it.

“Kylie you’re an amazing and wonderful person and student. I expect to see you for graduation and hopefully even at the Disney trip in spring with Rhythmix, I will even personally send you all the music and come up there to make sure you are doing what you need to do to get back here for those trips if I need to. Get yourself better and take your medicine!” After that we worked on choreography for the songs and working out partnering without me. I’m really going to miss my Rhythmix family.
