Adalina's P.O.V
When I walked into the dugout, all of my teammates started cheering my name. I put my bag down, and and sat down, lacing up my cleats.
"Lina?" I looked up, and saw that Hayes was standing inside the dugout.
"Yea?" he moved closer to me, then sat down. He had a brown wrap in his hand.
"Can you at least wrap your foot?" he said, sticking out his hand. The whistle blew, signaling that the coaches had flipped the coin, and we were out in the field.
"Yea, as soon as I get back." I promised, taking a handful of dill pickle sunflower seeds. I spit them all out when I made it to first base. Lelanie, the pitcher, threw the ball, I put the heel of my foot on the base, ready to jump for the hit.
"Strike one!" yelled the ump.
"Come on honey, you can hit it!" someone yelled from the stands. Lelanie pitched again, it was low, and it hit the plate.
"Ball one!" the ump yelled.
"You've got this Lele!" I told her. She looked back and smiled at me, and pitched the third time. It was a perfect pitch. The girl swung, and the ball went into the outfield, right behind me.
I turned toward the people in the outfield, raising my glove up in the air to signal I was ready. She threw it at me, as I backed my foot onto the plate. The girl was almost there, but I already had the ball in hand. The ump shook a closed fist in the air. "Out!"
I sigh with relief. We all go back to our positions. The next girl is heavy set, but she hits the ball straight up into the air. All of us ran toward the ball. "Mine!!" I called, throwing my glove up into the air. Everyone backed off, and the ball landed perfectly in my glove.
"Two outs"
"One more guys! We can do this!" yelled our coach. We all ignored him, the next girl that came up was scrawny, she would strike out. Sure enough, that's exactly what she did. We all ran back into the dugout, trading our gloves for batting gloves. I easily slide on my helmet, and grab my black bat.
"Adalina, you're up!" Yelled the coach! I ran into the batting box, and took a couple of practice swings.
"Go Adalina!" I heard Hayes call, then Nash and Bella started to clap. I held up my bat. The pitcher for the other team glared at me. She pitched, and I swung the bat as hard as I could. I took off, throwing the bat behind me.
I touch first, and look to see two girls in the outfield were fighting over the ball. Idiots.
I run to second, then third, I see a shadow of the ball getting thrown to short stop, but she drops it, and lets out a cry of irritation.
I make my way to home plate. The ball gets thrown to the catcher, she fumbles a little, but she finally got a good grip, I have no other choice but to slide.
I drop down to my legs, stretching out my right leg, and curling up the other. I hit home, but the catcher tips over my leg, and cleats my foot that had just healed. I feel a sharp pain, and I cry out.
"SHIT!!" I try to get up, but I end up falling down again. I lay back down in defeat.
"Safe!" yelled the ump. I scored, but I also may have just gotten myself benched for the rest of the game. The coach runs out, and helps me up. He tells me not to put any pressure on my foot, and I hop on one foot to the dug out.
As soon as I sit down, Hayes, Nash and Bella run in. Hayes was the first to reach me, and he gently took off my helmet, revealing my hair that got dampened by sweat.
"We're leaving." he said, picking me up bridle style. I don't try to fight him, just relax myself and burry my head into his chest.
"I love you Hayes"
"I love you too"
