Candy, as I soon learned to be her name, horrible name for anyone, sat on the counter eatting her twizzlers and drinking her juice. I wiped off the make up with remover off her face, and learned her face was covered in hand marks from being smacked and some cuts. I went to the bathroom, got the peroxide we had there and some paper towels to clean her cuts. As I was leaving to go back to her I saw Jimmy say hi to her. She shrunk back and screamed.
"Miss! Mister!" She started to yell out. I ran up to her just as Enrique came back in reaching her first and picked her up. Good.
"Jimmy I'm sorry." I told him as I reached them. "She is scared of men bigger than her "i told him.
"Take her to your house and get her cleaned up. She is filthy and terribly thin." He grabbed a bunch of snacks and juices amd but them in a bag.
"Jimmy I can't afford this" I said taking Candy into my arms. She held onto me like a monkey.
"I got it lil mama. Take her to the apartment and I'll be right there." He kissed my lips and Candy's forhead. Then pushed me towards the door to leave. I looked back to see him give Jimmy two stacks of money. Enrique's loaded. Wooh.
"Miss? We go hom'?" I crossed the street with her sti clinging to me. I wonder if she would mind a name change. Maybe Ruth, after my great granmda.
"Yes Ruth. We're going home." I told her. She smiled and wiggled happily in my arms. Guess she likes the new name. I walked up the stoop, through the doors, I started jogging up the stairs. I got us inside and went straight to the bathroom. Starting the water letting it run till it gkt warm and then filled the tub.
Nick walked in then and paused staring.
"What on earth is going on?" He said loudly.
Ruth took one loom and screamed. I slammed the door with my foot in his face and hugged Ruth to me calming her down enough to get her to get undressed and into the bath so I could wash her.
Holy shit. She wasn't black or dark skinned. She was just filthy, she was light skinned, spanish. She smiled at me, giggled, then splashed me. We played in the water and I continued to clean her hair. I'm so happy she can still smile and enjoy herself. That monster hasn't broken her spirit.
