As I boarded the train that would take me and my fellow tribute partner to the capitol, Caleb smirked at me.
Apparently he had gotten on before me.
I went to sit down in a booth like seat next to him. He was in front of me and I was in front of him.
"Albany, long time no see." He says smirking.
"Hello Caleb." I say politely.
I knew better than to be mean or sour towards anyone, I was raised better than that, but apparently Caleb wasn't.
"I can't believe they picked such a weak girl to fight for the district, man if you were the one who had to save us, we'd all be dead." He said and chuckled a bit.
I rolled my eyes.
Apparently he didn't know how strong I was.
"You know, you were the last person I expected to be chosen for the female tribute." He says. "I actually was hoping it would've been Annie Cresta."
"Oh really? And why?" I ask, quite interested.
"Easy kill." He says.
"And I'm not?" I ask. "After all, you did call me weak."
"But you're not as weak as her." He says smirking evily.
"You're so sure that you're going to win," I say resting my arms on the table. "What if you don't?"
"Oh please, it'll be easy." He says.
Killing innocent people was easy? Who was this guy? A serial killer? Or a bloodthirsty lunatic?
My eyes widened at his words and he seemed to think it was funny.
"You go in, wipe them out and win. You find their weaknesses, mistakes, you use it to your advantage." He says. "But now that I've told you, it'll only be harder to kill you."
"Who said that you'd even be the one to kill me?" I ask.
His stupid smirk still played in his face and I wanted to slap it off of him.
He ran his fingers through his black hair and his dark eyes looked quite mischievious.
"Oh sweetheart, you'll be in the top ten." He says.
Big headed, good for nothing, spoiled little brat!
This guy had a lot of room to talk!
Of course, he had been trained as a career, but geez louise, he was so big headed you could see it from a mile away!
"I'll make your death quick sweetheart, and say hi to your parents for me." He says. "At least you're leaving no one behind and no one is concerned about you."
"That's where you're wrong Caleb," I say. "There are people who are concerned for me."
He raises his eyebrows, smirking. "Oh really? Who?"
"Adeline, Annie Cresta, Finnick, Mags---Lots of people who actually care about me." I say.
His eyes actually widen. "Finnick? As in Finnick O'Dair?"
"Yes." I say.
His mouth almost drops. "Feather, how could he care for you? All he does is sleep with girls in the Capitol and think about his looks."
"Quit being so ignorant." I say frowning, leaning back and crossing my arms.
"I'm not being ignorant, I just know how Finnick is. He doesn't care about any girl enough to be concerned for her life." Caleb says.
"That isn't true! Every year when the reaping comes around, he's always praying that it isn't the young ones." I say.
"No, just the older ones." Caleb says with a smirk. "You really should think differently of Mr. O'Dair. I'm just hoping he'll show me his skills, that way I'll be in and out in less than a day." He says getting up and going into a different train car.
After he had disappeared, I stood up and walked over to the train car's window, not being able to see anything because of the speed we were going.
All of a sudden, the door opened at the opposite end and Finnick came in running over to me, hugging me.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
I hugged him back, breathing in his scent which was always sweet.
"Yes." I say.
Truthfully, I was, I had wanted to cry earlier, but oh well.
He pulls away looking into my eyes. "Feather, I'm going to help you...I'm going to make sure you're skilled whenever you go in there."
"Finnick I---"
"You will make it, you will survive and you will be the Victor of the seventieth Hunger Games." He says looking into my eyes seriously. "I'm going to help you out and get you where you need to be. You're going to come back here alive, trust me."
"And if I don't?" I ask.
"Then I'll know that you fought your hardest." He says softly.
"Finnick, I already owe you alot...Please, let me make it up to you before I die." I say.
"Don't talk like that, you're not gonna die." He says. "And how are you so sure?"
"Because I have a feeling." He says. "And typically, that feeling is right."
"If I make it out of this mess then I'll owe you my life." I say.
He smiles at me. "You don't owe me anything."
"Yes I do, I always will. I'll have to find a way to make it all up to you." I say.
"Just surviving will be enough." He says. "Staying alive will be enough payment."
His words were sincere and soft. Caleb's horrid words came to mind and I quickly pushed them away.
Mags came in and found Finnick and I, she came to hug us both.
I could tell that this isn't what she wanted for me either, but she seemed to know something...Something about Finnick and I.
Caleb never showed up that night and Finnick showed me to my bed car.
As I tried to fall asleep and get some rest, I found it pretty much impossible.
Tomorrow, we would be in the capitol and they would be showing us off like we were rare pieces of fine sapphire. I dreaded tomorrow and everything that would come along with it...
