Chapter 12

I walked in the front entrance of Mark’s building, shaking like a leaf. Was he going to tell me that we couldn’t be together? Would he tell me he wanted me more then anything and kiss me again?

I’d left my mom a note saying I was going for a long walk to relieve stress from school. I’d have to do a little bit of explaining there.

I walked slowly up the stairs, seeming as the elevator was broken. Walking slow not only made me less tired, but helped me think. Did I really want to this? It was so secretive, which isn’t good for a relationship.

A relationship…with Mark. The idea made me swoon. A chill ran down my spine as I entered the door leading to his floor.

When I got to his apartment door, I stared at it for a good thirty seconds before timidly knocking on it.

As if he’d been waiting for me right by the door, it swung open and there he was. Tie was loosened, belt undone. The look of a hard day’s work.

He gently took my hand and led me inside.

“Have you eaten?” he asked casually.

“No.” I answered, peaking a little more through the front doorway.

There is was. A coffee table set for two. There was a candle lit in the middle.

“Well, I’ve ordered some quality…Japanese cuisine.” he said, trying to sound sophisticated. He smiled sheepishly. “I hope you like spicy tuna rolls.”

I laughed. This was a real laugh. The kind of laugh I hadn’t uttered in quite a while.

After dinner, we sat on the couch and snuggled watching Family Guy reruns. I felt so safe, wrapped in his arms.

I leaned my head against his chest, so close I could hear his heart beating. I listened to every thump as it filled me with adrenaline from the thought of being this close to him. It also made me want to kiss him again.

Oh yeah, didn’t I come here to talk about that?

“Mark?”

“Yes, Abby?”

Oh, shoot! Now what do I say?

“Ummm…so, about that kiss earlier…” I began.

“Oh,” he said. “Our kiss.” he said with a bright smile.

“Didn’t you want to talk about it?”

“Actually…” he said trailing off and leaning in closer.
