So I was thinking...
What if Jacob is really a father in Jack The Rippers DLC, but his wife also died on childbirth just like Cecily?
What if Jacob was actually a human wreck and put all of his passion, feelings and time on the training of the initiates, and especially Jack the Lad, aka the Assassin who went on to become the Ripper?
Let's think about it. In JTR Jacob looks old, apparently, but he also looked so fucking mentally tired... It might be because of the general aesthetic and storyline of JTR, but I could not look at Jacob without thinking "Hell, he looks so depressed." It would actually make sense.
1. His twin sister, with whom he had spend half his life was on the other side of thee British Empire married and, in many cases happy.
2. His wife was dead (That could also explain her not being shown in JTR, while his son would have already been born, and not worrying about Jacob's disappearance)
3. He couldn't stand looking at his son, just like Ethan believed Cecily's death had been the twins' fault (That could explain the absence of Lydia's father from JTR).
4. He might also had felt terrible for this as he understood how it was to be abandoned by his father. It can also be that Jacob hated himself for behaving like Ethan, as it is mentioned that their relationship wasn't the best.
5. Jack, whom he had saved and trained and, as mentioned above, might had also dedicated his passion to, not only had turned against him and the Creed, but he also had taken control of the Rooks in Whitechapel.
6. So in a way Jacob had also partially lost another important aspect of his life, his gang.
7. The other initiates he had also trained and travelled all the way to India to do so, were killed by Jack.
Poor Jacob had actually nothing to fight for. In JTR, even if the playable characters are Evie and Jack and the younger twin is only being shortly shown, it is obvious that he is not who used to be. Lookat the 21 and 41 year old Jacob and you will look at two persons. The one is full with energy and all happy-go-lucky, while the other is like a ghost. A ghost who is tired, a ghost who might also had known that they could not deal with Jack's insanity on their own. A ghost who is scared of what he partially helped to be created.
