I walked into the ice cream shop craving for a vanilla ice cream cone when I accidently bumped into a hard chest. Hands instantly grabbed me and helped me stand. I looked up at the face, an apology on the tip of my tongue, when I saw the brightest blue eyes I have ever seen. My breath hitched when I studied him. He was beautiful. I know it's weird to call a guy that, but he was. He had light brown hair that curls at the end and when the light hits it just right it looks like it has blonde highlights. He had a strong jaw, straight nose, and sharp cheekbones.

I snapped out of my daze, frightened that he could catch me starring. But when I looked up his eyes weren't even focused on me. He was just looking down, his eyes searching like he couldn't see me.

"I'm sorry. I didn't see you." I said. His expression instantly went from emotionless to hopeful.

"Are you blind?" he asked. At first I thought that it was meant to be rude, but by the serious, yet hopeful, way he said it made me think otherwise.

"Uhh.... No. Why?" I asked.

He then looked like I had ran over his new puppy. "Oh.... Sorry...." He started to walked off, but before he could get too far I grabbed his arm.

"Hey, do you want to get an ice cream with me? It'll be my treat."

He didn't even turn towards me when he answered harshly, "You don't have to take pity on me just because I'm blind!"

WHAT??!! I didn't know he was blind. He didn't look like he was. He didn't have on shades nor did he have one of those dogs, but maybe that was just me being stereotypical.

"I'm sorry! I was just trying to be nice! And I didn't even know you were blind!!" I exclaimed. I started to walked away when his words stopped me.

"I'm sorry. I'm just so used to people taking pity on me that I'm sick of it. And yes, if the offer is still available, I would like to get some ice cream with you." he said sincerely.

"You are forgiven and yes the offer is still available." I replied.

We walked up to the register, ordered our ice creams, and, although he insisted he pay, I beat him to it. We got a booth towards the back of the ice cream shop and started on our treats.

"So what's your name? I asked.

"Jake. Yours?" he questioned.

"Lacey, but everyone just calls me Lace."

"That's a very pretty name." Jake complemented.

I blushed. "Thanks."

"I know this might sound really weird, but can you describe yourself to me?" Now it was his turn to blush.

"Sure. I have long, slightly curled, dark red hair, and even though I'm a redhead I have a light tan. I'm 5'3". I have green eyes, high cheekbones, and somewhat full lips. And I would like to think I'm pretty."

"Well if your description is anything to go bye, then I would think you're beautiful." Thank goodness he couldn't see me. My face was a tomato. I mumbled a "Thanks."

"You know, just from your voice I can tell you're blushing." he laughed. My face got super red at that. "Oh." I muttered. He laughed again.

I decided to see if I could make him blush like before. "Well, your laugh is beautiful." He instantly stopped laughing and blushed. This time it was my turn to laugh. He just looked so cute when he blushed.

I looked out the window to see that the sun was starting to set. Suprised, I looked down at our ice creams. The ice cream had melted and turned our cones into a soggy mess. I informed Jake of this and we started to clean up our mess. When we were done, he asked if I had a cellphone. I told him yes and asked if he wanted my number. He pulled out a voice-controlled phone amd when I told him my number he spoke into the phone. When we walked outside the door he pulled out a fold-up stick thing and after we said our goodbyes, we both went in different directions.

While walking home a few thoughts, out of the millions in my mind, stood out.

1st- Jake could really get around for a blind guy.

2nd- I could really see myself hanging out with him again.

and 3rd- I had completely forgot that he was blind almost the whole time.
