I sat down beside Jake, but I still felt nervous. He never called or texted me after we met. What if he didn't want to see me again? I glanced over at him to see him running his fingers over the desk. I wonder what he was searching for. Maybe a difference between desks so he knows it's his.

I reached over with my pencil and made a deep scratch on the side of the desk.

With his head still bent, he whispered, "thanks."

"You're welcome." I blushed. I wonder how he knew I was the one to do that. I hope the teacher doesn't find out I put that scratch on the desk, because then I would be in trouble for messing up school property.

Jake leaned his head in my direction. "I won't tell."

"Oh, thanks." I said, relieved. Wait, Mrs. Lloyd said something about him being behind.

"So um, what was the last thing you learned at your other school?" I asked.

"We were learning about the Pythagorean theorem."

What? We haven't learned anything about the Pythagorean theorem since the beginning of the year so why did they learn it at the end of the school year?

"Why were y'all learning about that since the standards say it was supposed to be covered at the beginning of last year?" I asked.

He cocked his head to the side like he was thinking about the answer. "I don't really know. No one ever reads the standards even thought they are on the wall. Well, that's what I've heard."

Oh God! I keep forgetting that he is blind!

"Yeah, no one reads them here either." After I spoke there was sort of an awkward silence. I didn't know what else to say and Mrs. Lloyd normally let's everyone get settled in before she starts class.

"Soooo.... Are you enjoying your day so far at a new school?"

He turned his head in my direction. "Yeah it's been good. It's hard to try to understand which direction everything is in."

I giggled. "Yeah, I remember my first day here as a freshman when every time I turned a corner I got lost again."

I looked up at his face to see him smile.  "If no one has already offered then I can show you around the school?"

OMG!! Why did I just ask that!! I wasn't even thinking it!

I turned my face away to get ready for the rejection. Obviously with how hot he is someone has already asked to give him the tour around school.

"Yes, that would be nice because no one has offered yet besides a teacher." Jake explained.

Yes! I mentally fist pump the air. Be cool. Be really cool. "Okay, cool." I turn my face to hide my really big grin from my classmates.

The bell rung and everyone rushed to pack their belongings. I walked over to Jake to assist him if he needed help.

"What class do you have next." I asked.

"I have  A.P. U.S. history."

That's all the way across the school and my next teacher hates when students are late. After I drop him off I have to come all the way back here.

"Okay, that's fine. You ready?" I ask once I see he has everything put away.

"Yep."

We start heading down the hallway and I wonder what I could say to start up a conversation.

"So.... Why didn't you ever call me?" I blurt out.

Damn!!! I didn't mean to say that! I look over to him to see his cheeks tinged a light pink. Now that I think about it, he blushes a lot.
