Chapter 4

Riker POV

My door opened.

"Time for dinner," Jim said.

We went through the usual routine of getting my hands locked together in front of me, walking downstairs, and getting food.

"Can you sit with me please?" I asked, quietly.

"Uh... Sure...?"

Jim sat down across from me at the table.

"I just don't want anybody to try to hurt me again," I said, feeling kind of embarrassed.

"I understand. So are you claiming that you didn't kill anyone?"

I looked up at Jim.

"Yeah. I never killed anyone. And I have no idea why they think I did. Nobody seems to believe me."

"I believe you."

"You do!? Why!?"

"We got a call today. Your brother got a text from a blocked number, saying that you were framed for the murder. They couldn't track the number, so they don't have proof, and they can't let you out. But it's a start at least. And back to the whole believing you thing... To be honest, if you were a killer... Well... Not to be rude or anything... But you're too wimpy and scared to ever be a killer."

My cheeks flushed. I was embarrassed, but it was true.

"I'm terrified to be here," I said, quietly, looking down.

"What do you do all day to keep yourself busy?"

"I think about my siblings, and try to imagine what they're doing. I think about when and if I'm ever going to get out of here. And I think about song lyrics. I'm a song writer, so my mind is constantly on stuff like that."

I finished up my dinner. And then Jim said I could have an hour outside. He took me to this fenced in area thingy. It was a loop. At least I could get a little exercise...

I slowly started walking. It was kind of cold out here, but it was nice to breathe in the fresh air.

I passed a group of guys, and I recognized one of them as one of the people who'd attacked me during a meal. And he started following me!

I started walking quicker, and I didn't dare look behind me. Just as I was starting to think I'd gotten away from him, I felt someone grab my arm tight.

I let out a squeaking sound as I was pushed up against the fence. There was barbed wire woven into the fence, and I felt it poking my back and legs.

"Everyone! This is baby Rikey!" The guy shouted.

I kept my eyes closed, scared of what was going to happen next.

"Aw, he's scared! He's shaking!" The guy shouted.

I heard footsteps, and I opened my eyes. There was a crowd of people around us now, and they were all scary looking.

I fell to my knees, terrified. I covered my face with my hands, wishing I was home!

"Everyone! Back up! Now!" I heard someone shout.

I stayed frozen, and just cried into my hands.

"Come here, Riker."

I peeked through my fingers, and Jim was holding out his hand to me. I gladly took it, and he pulled me up.

He ended up taking me back to my cell. I just wanted to go home, but since I couldn't, being alone was the next best option.
