Chapter Seven: Lifetimes Apart
Hux woke up before Ben. They were comfortably intertwined with each other, Ben's arms wrapped around Hux. Moving slightly, he found out quickly just how tight those arms were around him. Giving up, Hux rested his head on Ben's chest.
The silence surrounding them gave him the perfect time to question his life choices. This particular day, Hux was questioning the future. Did he want one with the man in his bed? It seemed a little late to say no. They already slept in the same piece of furniture twice. And, guess what? Nothing felt more right to Hux. So what was wrong? It wasn't like he didn't like Ben being close. He wanted Ben closer.
Do I want to devote myself to him?
It seemed obvious to him. Of course he did. Just then, Hux resolved that today Ben would know how Hux felt.

Ben woke up comfortably. With no alarm to jolt him from happiness, he was able to do things on his own schedule. Yet, no amount of freedom could of prepared him for this.
As he opened his eyes, his heart stopped. There, in his arms, was Hux. Never, from the moment they met, had Ben ever thought his affections would come to this. The day before the rally, where Hux gave his speech, Ben had felt strange connections to him. Throughout the following day, he barely kept it together despite his smooth talk.
Affections aside, a thought occurred to him. It had barely been enough time to be good friends, let alone partners. Are we going too fast? Surely Hux might want to slow this down, whatever this was.
Hux turned his head. Ben hadn't thought he was awake, but it hardly mattered. He did, however, find it strange that someone who "wanted to slow it down" would sit and savor moments of romantic affections. Most would be compelled to launch themselves out the nearest window to avoid contact.
"Good morning, General. I gather you slept well, correct?"
Hux chuckled in response, still tired despite being awake for longer. He nudged his face closer to the warmer body, knowing there would be a limited amount of time the two could possibly spend together once the morning ended. They held onto the moment as if it were their last, as neither of the two wanted this moment to stop. After a short while, the smaller man grew tired of waiting for the bite. "Ben, what time is it?" Hux sat up, allowing the other to roll over and look at the standard clock installed in the wall. From the looks of it, there wasn't much time left before the alarm rang. Hux had yet to apply his contact lenses for the day, and therefor had to rely on Ben.
"We only have a couple minutes before they wake us up. Perhaps it would be best for us to get up."
The general made a noise out of disgust, yet took off the blanket in an attempt to get ready. They had already arranged their clothes in neat stacks along the shelf, allowing for an easier morning. Quickly, to avoid the cold air on his bare chest, the general reached for his uniform and contact lens case. He headed for the bathroom. Though the two were dressing in separate rooms, they remained together in thought. One couldn't look at their own hand without thoughts of the other's intertwined with it uninvitedly approaching and conveniently distracting from the task ahead.
The alarum bells rang clear, and a copper headed beauty made himself seen again. Ben's eyes almost ached from deprivation, and were blessed once they were given what they wanted. Of course, more fault lied with the owner than the eyes themselves, though aesthetic attraction had a great deal to do with the desire he felt. They drew closer, neither of the two aware yet both of them yearning.
"Time for an early start I suppose. I'll have to talk to you later, Ben."
Just then, Ben realized how much he loved Hux. Just then, he knew he wouldn't survive that long without Hux's affections. Just then, he forgot the pain of the desires he'd endured to focus on how great the next pains would be. Just then, he realized he needed to show Hux, and he needed to do it fast.
Before Hux could even turn away, Ben made his decision. Raising his arm, he quickly grabbed onto the general's stiff uniform. Ben tugged Hux closer, close enough to feel the breathing of one another. Hux's eyes were wide in surprise, and his cheeks flushed. While Ben took a second to pause before the action, Hux drew in a shaky breath. Slowly, Ben shifted his head's position and the two connected at the lips. Hux was still quite wide eyed, yet they were closed as Ben drew even nearer and joined their hands. Hux tilted his face upwards into the kiss, enjoying the sensation.
It was over quickly, yet to them it was more valuable than lifetimes of being apart.
