Chapter 24 Fire

Just as I begin to lose consciousness James is knocked off of me. I let out a whimper when his teeth are ripped from my skin and just barely hold my eyes open to see Edward smash him into a column.

"You're alone... because you're faster than the others. But not stronger," James growls to Edward and flips their positions so he can smash Edwards face into the mirror.

"I'm strong enough to kill you," Edward replies and films James backwards into another mirror shattering it. Then he sprints to Bella and picks her up. Edward leaps with her up to the balcony exit.

Suddenly James grabs Edwards ankle and jerks them down. James violently yanks Edward to the floor sending Bella crashing to the ground into piles of glass. I cry out for her then Edward when James tosses him into a window.

"B-B-Bella-a," I rasp and try to drag myself to my sister. She winces and pulls a shard of glass from her leg and stares at me with pained eyes. "Bells."

I reach my hand out far ahead and she reaches out too. Just as our fingers touch James steps on my wrist. I screech in agony when it snaps like a stick and try to dig my nails into his ankle. James grins and kicks me in the stomach sending me rolling away.

James stares Edward in the eyes and crouches by Bella. He grabs her hand and brings it to his mouth.

He pauses and glares sinisterly to lengthen the terror and utter hopelessness we both feel before biting down.

"NO!" I scream just as Bella lets out a heart shattering sound of pain.

Not my sister! Not my sister!

Edward lets out a maniac roar of rage and dives into James plowing him right through the floorboards.

Mustering the last of my strength I inch towards Bella.

Bella is thrashing and chocking on her own noises of pain as the venom tarnishes her pure blood.

Overwhelming guilt and desperation surges through me. I have to get to her.

"Bella," I cough out and pull myself closer. "Bella."

My blood is on the floor and every move I make causes new waves of pain. Black dots are edging my vision but I force myself to breathe and concentrate on remaining conscious.

James and Edward brutally fight but Edward doesn't stand a chance with my blood pushing through James veins on top of the fact that Edward drinks animal blood.

Edward gets knocked back again and James stomps to me. He grabs me by my shoulder and lifts me from the ground.

"You're a tasty morsel aren't you Reyna. It's too bad I have to kill you really. I could have used you," James says with a smirk.

"Put. Me. Down. Now," I order mustering up my power. James sways for a minute before shaking his head and grabbing my neck to cut off air.

"Your tricks won't work on me. I sired you," James scolds and clocks his tongue. Behind him Edward gets back up and savagely bites James neck ruling a chunk from it.
