"What — What do you mean?" Louis shakes his head towards his mother, eyebrows furrowed as he tries to chew on the small piece of apple he has in his mouth. His arms were crossed and he was supporting all of his weight on one leg, causing his hip to be jutted out and his other leg slightly bent, his curves to be even more present in a surprisingly loose dress he found in his closet the other day.

Jay looks up from the ground and sighs, making brief eye contact with Louis before she looks away. "I think that you've been staying in your room far too long for it to be healthy so I think it would be best if we through another masquerade ball in order for you to find — I don't know — at least a friend or something bigger." Louis was appalled by his mother's opinion. Had he really been staying in his room for so long that even his mother is worried about him?

The blue eyed boy takes his lower lip in between his teeth, looking around while trying to think of the worst case scenarios that could happen if they were to throw this ball. "I," he pauses, clearing his throat, "will you make it obvious that you're trying to look for a guy for you son or are you just going to tell people that it's a normal party that you're throwing the second time in three months, mummy?"

"Well, I-I think that it would be a good choice to tell people it's a normal party so we will have more . . . options." and, okay, Louis really doesn't know what she means by that but he just nods slowly, looking down and smoothing his dress out. He supposes it wasn't a bad idea either, he's over Harry and he's ready to meet someone new who wasn't as controlling and manipulative as the lad.

Before he can even think about what he's doing, he speaks up. "Okay . . . yeah, I'll do it. I mean, what could be the worst thing that could happen?" the corner of his mouth quirks slightly when Jay sighs in relief, closing her eyes and pressing her hands together as she were praying. Starting over would be the best thing to do about this whole situation, but no matter how hard he tries to think about it, he just can't imagine replacing Niall with another person because he's been there for him for so long.

"I'll call up everybody today and see what kind of mask we'll order for you. Oh! Maybe we can ask Maria to make you one from scratch — she's very good at them, that talented girl." His mother proposes, vanishing the room without letting Louis reply. The brown haired boy just laughs softly, eyes trained on his Apple that he never finished that was set on their table. He reaches out and brings it to his lips, taking a bite out of it while thinking of what dress he could possibly wear.

It was a week later and everybody in town was already talking about the party the Tomlinsons' were going to throw, how they were going to do their makeup, and how they were hopefully going to meet someone tonight. That's what Louis' goal was for the party, get over everything that's happened — get over Harry. But, of course he's already over him, right?

He was inside of his room, looking at himself in the full length mirror and admiring his light blue dress that matched the color of his eyes. He could hear the familiar faint chatter from the beginning of their party going on downstairs, breath hitching suddenly, something that happens when he's nervous. What if he doesn't meet anybody? Oh, that'll just break his mothers heart and that's the last thing he wants to do.

Louis shakes his head and reaches out for his mask that was sitting on top of his desk, looking at himself while slowly putting it on. It was medal, which Louis hated most about it, but it had beautiful (fake) pearls on the sides along with a touch of pink lines that would go from the top to bottom of the mask. Jay had put some invisible string around it so Louis could wear it without having to hold it.

"Okay, Louis, this is your night. Don't be afraid to talk to some new people and definitely don't be afraid to dance with someone if they ask." he whispers to himself, breathing in and out three times before he holds his head up high and walks out of his room, the clicking of his one-inch heals almost silent compared to the sound of laughter that has increased over the times that the petite boy has been in his room.

He walks down the long stairway that leads to the main room where the ball was being held, everybody suddenly becoming quiet at the sight of his beauty. Louis' cheeks flush a light pink at the attention, jumping slightly when his mother comes up from behind him and puts her soft hands on his shoulders. "You look gorgeous, Louis. All the guys will be crawling at your feet, trust me." he nods in reply, pursing his lips when some of the girls look at him with faces of disgust.

"Is there anything I have to do first, mummy?" he inquires, turning around so he's facing her. His breath gets knocked out of his lungs when he sees how his mother looks like. She has a beautiful maroon dress on that's smug on her and a black and white mask on, causing her blue eyes to pop. She looked amazing, like she always did.

She shakes her head at his question, drying her sweaty palms on his dress unconsciously. "The dance should be starting in a couple minutes, you can do whatever you'd like until they announce it." is all she says before she walks out without another word, probably going to speak with one of her friends. Louis is standing by himself for a while until he hears a male voice speak through one of their microphones.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please take your spots out on the dance floor because we will begin shortly."

Louis swears it wasn't even five seconds until a crowd of guys appear in front of him, all talking at once but he knows they're asking him if he wants to dance. His eyes widen at the sight and he stutters, looking over the crowd and trying to decide but it's kind of hard when the clock is ticking and when he has so many options to chose from. His breath gets stuck in his throat when he sees a brief flash of familiar green eyes before it goes away.

"Please, will you dance with me?" One guy steps up from the crowd and Louis gives him a once over. He's fairly tall — taller than him, at least — and he has light brown eyes. He needs to forget about Harry and all of the pain he's put him through and dancing with this guy will sure do the trick. Louis can tell that he's even more handsome from under the small mask. Before he can stop himself he's replying.

"Yes, I would like to dance with you."
