LLouis let out a breathy sigh as he looked down at the paper and back up at the house in front of him. He had asked his mother to give him Jack's address so he could invite him over for dinner. She had scribbled it down on a small piece of paper and now here he was. He really hoped that Jack would be nice and agree to this whole thing, because he doesn't know how he'll explain to his mother that he really wasn't his boyfriend and he was actually seeing the Mad Hatter.
Louis bites his lower lip and smooths out his dress before standing on his tippy toes — out of habit — and knocking three times on the large door. His hands were shaking and he was pretty sure he had goosebumps on his body. The boy waited with clasped hands, pressing his lips together. Suddenly, the door swings open, revealing Jack. "Uh, hey." Louis mumbles, flashing him an awkward smile.
Jack looks down at him with his eyebrows furrowed, a confused look on his face. "Louis, what are you doing here?" he asks, crossing his arms. Louis opens his mouth to explain everything, but nothing comes out. He doesn't even know where to start. They stand there for a minute before Jack opens the door wider, "You can come inside and talk to me, if that's easier for you." Louis lets out a large breath and smiles, nodding his head and walking in the house.
It wasn't the biggest house, but it was cozy. When you first enter, you see a decent sized living room. Pictures were hung up on display and so were canvasses of random but beautiful art. The floor was wooden and clean which reflected off light, creating a mysterious aura. Louis looked around in awe, eyes wide and mouth open. "Your house is nice." is all he says, sitting down on one of the couches when Jack motioned for him to.
"Thank you. I got it when I moved out at 19 years old, payed with some of my parents money and my money." The man informed him, fixing the glasses that were perched up on his nose and taking a sip of his water. "Oh, I'm sorry, did you want anything to drink? I can make some tea or coffee if you'd like." Louis shakes his head, mumbling a no, thank you. "Right, so what did you want to talk about?"
Louis smiles uneasily and sighs, "Uh . . . well, it's a really long story so I hope you don't mind. But basically, I'm dating this wonderful guy that my mom wouldn't approve of, so sometimes I sneak him in my room so she won't see him. My mother washes clothes during the weekends and sometimes she goes into our rooms to see if we forgot any dirty clothes. While she was searching through my room, she found something that belonged to my boyfriend. So when she confronted me about it, I panicked and said that I was actually dating you."
Jack scratches his chin and hums, "I see. Is this why you wanted to come and talk to me? To tell me you told your mother you were seeing me?"
Louis shakes his head and looks down at his folded hands on his lap, "Since I told my mom that I was seeing somebody, she asked me to ask you if you wanted to . . . have dinner with us." he said that last part quietly, fiddling with his thumbs. It's silent for a moment, Louis not wanting to look up and see the look on Jack's face. "I totally get it if you don't want to go along with this — I just really need this plan to work so she doesn't find out about me and my real boyfriend."
"Sure, I'll do it." Louis' head snaps up at that, looking at Jack in shock. Did he really just say that? Was he imagining this? Jack laughs at the look on Louis' face, taking another sip of his water that was close to being finished. "You just need to tell me what time, so I can see if I'm free. I know how it feels to be scared of the thought that your parents might not approve of who you're dating. It happened to me one time, when I was younger."
Louis immediately gets on his feet and runs to when Jack was sitting, wrapping his arms around him and hugging him tightly. "Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!" he exclaims, feeling weight being lifted off his shoulders. Jack laughs into the embrace, hugging him back. "You're one of the nicest people I've ever met." Louis tells him when he pulls back, a giant smile on his face.
"I think so too."
Louis lets out a breathy laugh and reaches up to fix his fringe, thinking that it probably got messed up during the hug. "Okay, I just need your number so I can fill you in on whatever." he says, watching as Jack nods and gets up from the couch, disappearing somewhere in the dinning room. He gone for about a minute until he walks back in the room with a small paper, giving it to Louis. The boys eyes rake over it, smiling when he realizes it's three different numbers. He was actually willing to do this.
Jack peers over at the paper and points to each number, "That's my work number, my home number, and my cell number." Louis nods, folding the paper in half so he can hold it in a fist without getting it wrinkled. The blue eyed boy gives Jack one last hug, thanking him over and over again. He pulls back and waves, turning around and walking towards the door. "Bye!" Jack calls out as Louis closes the door behind him.
Louis makes his way back towards his own house, skipping happily while he hums a random tune to himself. He didn't really think that this plan would work, but right now it seems like everything's going just right. The sun was setting so the light was shining on Louis' face, his hair looking like an even more beautiful brown. He walks towards his secret trail, beaming when he sees a pure white bunny, but he decides not to touch it.
After five minutes of walking in the trail, he finally makes it to his home. "Mummy, I'm back!" he calls out, making his way towards the kitchen where his mother was probably preparing food. He finds her with her apron on, cutting some vegetables and putting it in a large pot that was most likely soup. Her hair was up in a pony tail, some strands sticking out but Louis thought she still looked beautiful.
Jay looks up and smiles, wiping her hands on her apron, "Wow, that was quick. So he either didn't hesitate to come over or he really didn't want to at all." She stirs the wooden spoon inside the pot, laughing when she hears Louis' stomach growl. The aroma of the soup made Louis realize that he was really hungry. "What did he say, sweetheart? Will your boyfriend do it?"
"Yes, my boyfriend will do it."
