I woke to an empty bed, and groaned, looking at my watch to find it was six-am. I really needed to start regulating my sleep. It wasn't doing any favors for my looks. Then memories of last night rushed back in, glad to have the opportunity to present themselves. Niggling like a cat wanting fed, I allowed myself to remember last night, and flushed beet red.
I admitted it.
Not exactly in words, that would take a while, but I was improving. I had just told Tomas that I had feelings for him. The words felt foreign in my head, and I felt uncomfortable even thinking it. It would take me a while to be able to say it to his face. Would he judge me for it? I shook my head, Tomas wasn't the judgmental type.
Suddenly I heard a thump! and immediately went on high alert. Strings of uninterpretable curses reached my ears. Looking around for a weapon to protect myself, my eyes landed on a can of air freshener, or whatever Mum had called it. I grabbed it, testing it to make sure the nozzle still spurted the same lavender scented mist. Throwing back the covers, I landed on the floor barefoot. Not making a sound, I padded noiselessly to the door, reaching out with one hand I quietly opened it with the slightest click. I heard someone not even bothering to be quiet coming my way, and prepared myself. The footsteps neared, and at the last moment I sprung out with a shout, dousing my enemy in the spray.
The intruder yelled and stumbled back, attempting to rid his eyes of the foul mist. Dropping the can, I began to run towards him when he shouted.
"Silver! It's me, Tomas!" I skidded to a halt, and a closer look revealed it was in fact, Tomas. Oops. When he realized I wasn't about to attack him, Tomas lowered his arms from his face and grinned, his eyes red and teary from the spray. "So, this is the perfect wakeup for my girlfriend." I flushed. Way to go, Silver. Trust you to mess it up.
Silver, I heard noises inside. Are you alright? Did someone get hurt? Pegasus' voice interrupted my thoughts, and I looked once more at Tomas.
Nah, everyone's fine. I answered, a smile on my lips. I'll see you soon. Where's Mum?
She and Blue left early. Shamsiel is taking him back to the South settlement. Pegasus answered. My smile vanished, she was already gone. Then I looked back to Tomas' puffy eyes, and grinned.
"Need some help?" I asked.
"Are you kidding me?!" Tomas yelled. Right now he was currently sitting on the couch, attempting to unstick his eyelids.
"Hey, it's not my fault Mum doesn't label things!" I answered back, trying to suppress a laugh. After I had accidentally mistaken Tomas for a burglar and attacked him with the spray, I had gone looking in Mum's office for something to wash out his eyes. Unfortunately-
"Well, I'm pretty certain glue would have been discernable from eyewash!" Tomas retorted, giving up with a defeated sigh as he slumped back against the couch pillows. A smile twitched at my lips, but I refused to let the traitorous sound slip out. Suddenly I smelled smoke. Rushing to the kitchen, I quickly lifted the smoking pan off the element, sweeping it away with my hands to see what should have been bacon. I gagged. "So much for breakfast in bed." Tomas mumbled as I rejoined him, sitting next to him on the couch. I chuckled.
"Congratulations, I think we are officially the worst couple in the records and it's not even twenty-four hours into the relationship." We laughed together at my comment, the sound ringing out through the forest. Pegasus poked his head in through the window, attracted by the sound, and a shadow loomed at the door, signifying Sapphire's presence.
Sorry, are we interrupting something? He asked. I blushed, and shook my head. Getting up, I returned to my room, and dressed into my trusty leather jacket, a black fitting shirt, and camo jeans, as well as my combat boots. I literally ripped the brush through my atrocious hair, and braided it so it stayed out of the way. As always, the gleaming silver strip of hair fell loose, which I quickly swept behind my ear. Pausing to look again in the mirror, I studied the girl looking back at me.
