We reached the mountains by late the next day, the sun was just beginning to set when Logan pulled off of the main road that weaved through the mountains and pulled onto what seemed like a large hiking trail, I was amazed that the car could make it through here.

We hadn’t spoken since we left the hotel in Omaha, I was to hurt and angry and Logan was just too miserable.  Now that we were so close I felt my body tingling with anticipation.

We pulled into a small clearing, an ATV with two helmets sat on the edge of the clearing, behind it was a smaller, more rugged path then the one we had just been on. Silently we both got out of the car, Logan offered me one of the helmets which I took without saying a word. Soon we were winding our way through thick tree’s and over thick roots. Suddenly everything went dark and I realised that we must have entered the mountain. Logan turned the headlights on but it was unnecessary, we could both see clearly in the dark.

The walls of the mountain were a silvery blue, they shone when the ATV headlights flashed over them. I looked around in amazement as we traveled deeper into the mountain. Soon the road we were traveling on was lit by torches on the walls, it all seemed pretty mid evil to me but then it struck me that it would be pretty hard to wire a mountain for lights.

After what must have been an hour I heard the roar of water crashing down ahead of us. Despite myself I clung a little tighter to Logan who answered by momentarily placing a hand over one of my own.

We emerged into an extremely large cavern, I was shocked to find sunshine coming down on us but even more shocked to see the large waterfall that cascaded out of the huge mountain wall and into a pool below it, where the water went I did not know.

Out of tiny cave entrances everywhere people emerged. They were all equally beautiful and all equally frightening. Some of them had fangs, some of them were small with pointed ears, some of them looked just like me or Logan, except for the hint of a glow in their eyes. I backed up as the started to crowd around me, it wasn’t until I bumped into Logan and he rest his hands on my shoulders that I stopped.

“Its alright” He whispered “See?”

All the people that had come rushing in knelt in front of my, crossing one arm over their chest and bowing their heads.

“Welcome back Princess” A fine boned girl with hair that was snow white and pointed ears said “my name is Lily, I will escort you to your mother”

She stood up and the people made a pathway for us that lead to one of the cave mouths, above it was a large dragon crest.

“Logan” I whispered “How old is this place?”

“To old to count” He whispered back

We followed Lily into the cave which was lit by tony little floating balls of different coloured light instead of torches. When we were safe from the crowd Lily turned around, beaming.

“Oh Logan” She said “Im so glad you made it back safely”

Logan nodded

“Thank you Lily” He said

I studied Lily’s face, she was absolutely lovely, I figured she must be part elf of fairy or something. But what caught my attention was the way she was looking at Logan.

“Weren’t you supposed to be taking us to my mother?” I asked, not bothering to keep the irritation out of my voice.

Lily’s crystal blue eyes dropped to my face, her love-struck expression melted into one of fear when she saw my face.

“Of course your highness” She said, making a small curtsy and then turning around, hurrying down the hall.

“Temper” Logan whispered “Your eyes are glowing”
