The great room had been transformed into a huge ball room, decorated to resemble a spring night. The ceiling looked like it was actually the night sky and it smelled like fresh cool grass in the room even though it was packed with tons of people, all of whom bowed when we entered the room.
“Ladies and Gentlemen” My mother said, her voice some how amplifying “My daughter”
Everyone stood up and burst into applause, I tried to smile but it was faltering, I wanted to run away and hide somewhere. I wanted Logan.
Out of the crowd a young man stepped forward. He was drop dead gorgeous with hair that shone like the sun and eyes that seemed like they were the ocean. He was tall with pale skin and broad shoulders. He was wearing dark pants with high black boots that reached his knees and a deep blue shirt that looked like it was made out of dragon skin, oddly enough it looked sexy. He bowed in front of me, taking my hand and kissing it.
“Princess Amber” He said “I am Caleb”
I couldn’t help but find myself flushing, his voice was deep and seductive.
Automatically I curtsied; remember the crash course on eticit George had given me while doing my hair.
Music started then and the crowd broke up, people started dancing, some started taking.
“Amber I will be over there” My mother said, pointing towards the thrown “I want you to mingle, get to know everyone”
In other words, get to know Caleb
She walked away, leaving me standing there feeling awkward and panicked.
“Care to dance?” Caleb asked, offering me his hand
Shyly I took it, he lead me onto the floor were dozens of other couples were dancing, all of them nodded to us as we took our place on the floor and Caleb wrapped his arms around me, he started guiding me around in an unfamiliar waltz that I would only be able to do with his help.
“I know you probably don’t like me” He said “And I know this is all extremely knew to you, but I just want you to know that you’re safe with me”
“Um” I said, feeling a little taken aback “Thank you”
“How long have you known?” He asked “About the betrothal?”
“Only a few hours” I admitted, I felt sick inside “To be honest, I don’t come from a society where marriages are arranged, so I’m sort of freaking out”
Caleb spun me around carefully, I floated back into his arms easily.
“I understand” He said “Even though I have known about this my whole life, its been killing me not being able to get to know you until now, but now that I see you I can absolutely admit that I am marrying the prettiest girl in the world”
I flushed again, this guy was smooth
“Not that I don’t think your good looking or anything” I said “but since this is all sort of hitting me like a sack of bricks, please don’t be offended if I freak out or try to run away okay?”
Caleb grinned, showing me a mouth full of perfect white teeth, of course, vampire.
“Don’t worry” He said “I have a good sense of smell”
He leaned in, inhaling my neck
“Now I can find you anywhere” He murmured against my skin
I swallowed hard, why was I suddenly so hot all over?
