Chapter 17:
The days are dragging on without Cody here. Its the same routine everyday. Going to school, homework, sometimes a photo shoot, call from Cody, get ready for bed and start all over again. Its only been two days since he left and I miss him already.
I find myself zoning out a few times in fourth period. I don't know how I even keep up my grades when I'm not even listening half the time."Kayla come on. Time for lunch." Alyssa nudges me. I pack up my books and walk to the lunch quad with her.
"What are you doing today after school?" Alyssa asks.
"Homework. Thats it.
"Come with a few of us to go shopping after school." she offers.
"No I'm good. I want to go to sleep afterwards. I've been busy and need to catch up on my sleep." I reject her offer. Someone taps my shoulder so I turn around. A girl who must've been a freshman, wearing jeans, and a long sleeve shirt.
"Hey. Aren't you friends with Cody Simpson?" the girl asks. I can't even count how many times I've been asked this.
"Yeah.. Why?"
"Can you give this to him for me please?" she pulls out an envelope from her backpack handing it to me.
The sleeve of the her shirt slightly goes up revealing scars. When she notices I see it she pulls her sleeve back down. I slowly take the letter, taking in the girls appearance. I've never known anyone to self-harm so it took me by surprise. Maybe its because I wasn't very social, but that wasn't the point. I hated the fact people would do that to themselves for any reason at all. As much as I've been through I could never find the strength in me to harm myself. Its a sad thought. I let it go though."Sure." I look back up at her assuring her I would.
"Thanks." she quickly walks away disappearing out of my sight.
I turn back to Alyssa and put the letter in my binder.
"Who was that?" Alyssa asks."Not sure. She just wants me to give a letter to Cody."
"I have to go see my... Science teacher for help on an assignment he gave us... I'll see you later." I get up from the table leaving Alyssa and a few other girls.
So I lied. I wasn't going to my science class. I wanted to find the girl who gave me the letter. I walked around the school but I couldn't find her anywhere.
--
My nap is interrupted by a phone call.
"Hello?" I pick up tiredly.
"Hey beautiful. You okay?" Cody says on the other line.
"Yeah just tired." I smile at the sound of his voice.
"Oh. Im guessing I woke you up?"
"Yeah but its okay. Whats up?"
"I had free time and just wanted to call. I miss you!" he says.
"I miss you to. Can't you come back earlier?" I ask.
"I wish. How was your day?" thats when I remember what happened at lunch but I don't mention it.
"It was the same. Just trying to let time pass."
"It'll go by quick. I gotta go but I'll talk to you soon okay?"
"Alright. Bye Codes." I hang up the phone laying back down in bed. I hear the front door shut indicating my mom was home. She comes upstairs opening my door.
