"Eek! It's the first party of the school year! How are you not excited?" Avery bellowed. I never understood why she always got so caught up in our high school's parties.
"Because! All we're going to do is play spin the bottle! It's the same every single party!" I whined.
"Quinn! At the last party James got dared to kiss Danny! Danny then admitted he was bi and they have a major fling now! You can not tell me that wasn't interesting! Do you not know how many girls were devastated after that?"
"I don't understand why they were so devastated! Danny is just average looking so he isn't a disappointment and James is just a jerk! I don't know why you're making me do this." It was the same every year since grade 8. Being in grade 10 now I can say that two years of the same game is more than enough. Avery had a different outlook on things though.
In about 15 minutes four different girls would show up at my house so they could all dress up in their sluttiest clothes to try and impress the new guy coming to town. Not only did they not know that the new boy had no interest in their little games. He was much more mature than anyone was expecting. Or at least that's how I remember him.
Clayton Reeler the now most impressively good looking teenage boy to walk this planet that used to be my next door neighbour until I moved. My best friend still to this day even though I haven't saw him in over a year. God how I hope he hasn't changed...
A hand waved in front of my face cutting my thoughts of Clay short. "Quinn... Quinn... Are you even listening to me?! I said" Avery put extra oomph onto 'said' to make sure she had my attention back. "You're wearing your black leggings with your maroon docs and that cute white blouse with that burgundy jacket and that cream coloured scarf! Okay?" Avery beamed. She loved dressing me up even tho half the time I wasn't sure if the clothes she picked even matched.
"Umm... Ave, aren't maroon and burgundy the same colour?" I joked innocently. Avery was a fanatic when it came to colours, her room was brighter than a rainbow and included way more colours as well.
She looked through the mirror at me with a look that could kill but that look was quickly masked by her look of horror when my phone started blasting Barbie Girl had caused her to rub makeup in all the wrong places. I mumbled an apology but picked up my phone quickly making a beeline to the bathroom.
"Clay!" I shrieked. "You're still coming to the party tonight right? You have to please say yes! I hate parties but-"
"Whoa whoa! Calm down Q! I wouldn't miss seeing you for the life of me! But on one condition..."
"Uh oh... I don't like the sounds of this Clay! It sounds like one of your dares and we both know how that turned out last time." I replied flatly.
"Really Q? You just had to bring that up didn't you! No it actually isn't a dare. Although we can switch one letter up and make it something you and I will both enjoy?" Clay had this way of turning his voice husky that made me just want to melt.
"Umm, Clay... You can't turn dare into sex with just changing one letter..."
"Oh my god! Q, I can't believe you! I was going to say date, but that was just great!" He burst out into a laughing fit while I chuckled to myself and prayed that my embarrassment didn't leak through the phone.
"Clay, watch out. You're turning into a poet!" I managed to change the subject before he could embarrass me more.
"Nope, don't distract me Q! Tonight I'm picking you up, actually right now I'm picking you up. Get your ass out to my bike we're going to that party together."
"Wait, you're here!"
I could just sense the smile he had plastered onto his face. "Yes Q I'm here. Now hurry your ass up!" With that he hung up. I rushed to my window and peaked out, and sure enough his little black motorcycle was sitting there. I ran back into my room to grab my stuff only to be reminded that Avery was still here.
"Umm Avery, girls... I, umm... I have to go."
"What? Where? Why? We haven't hung out in forever and you are ditching me, at your place, before the biggest party of the year?" Avery grumbled.
"I'm going out with Clay! Please! I'll make it up to you, and we were going to be leaving in like five minutes anyway!"
"Ugh. Please tell me you aren't falling for Clayton! He's the bad boy, a player, and a cheater at his own game!"
I looked over at her and frowned. "No I am not falling for Clay. He's my best friend though and I haven't seen him in awhile. I'm going to go, I will see you at the party!" I rushed towards the stairs and pretty well flew down them. I ran out and hugged Clay.
"So, next stop, the party" He smirked, and I couldn't help but wonder what he was planning to do.
