It is now the day after the death of my wife. We were fighting in the car and I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. Another car collided with ours on her side in an uncrowded crossroad when I accidentally ran a red light. The other driver was able to walk away without much harm but my wife died on impact.
I know it was all my fault. We wouldn't have even had the fight if it wasn't for me. I hadn't even told our seven-year-old son, Daniel, yet. Anyway, the day after the crash, Daniel kept giving me strange looks as if he were confused.
I was worried that he had found out about the incident without me knowing and that he was going to hate me. My back was also killing me. I figured that it was from the guilt and grief from losing her. I decided to finally confront Daniel and tell him about his mother.
"Are you wondering about your mother?" I asked him. As I said this, my back got a sudden sharp pain. Probably the thought of her again and how Daniel will react once I told him.
"Yes," he simply replied.
"Are you wondering why she isn't here?" The pain was consistently getting worse.
He just looked at me seeming more confused than ever.
"What are you talking about? I was just wondering why mommy is so pale and why you giving her a piggyback ride all day."
