13 Days

Chapter 3

I wake up the next morning with the sun beating on my eyes.  God, why is it so bright? Did I forget to close the curtains? I slowly open my eyes and glance at my window. The curtain is closed. Why is it so bright? I turn and face the clock. Oh shit!! It's 8:30! I' m already late for school! Oh well, fuck it. I woke up to late I'm just not gonna go,  I think to myself right before I close my eyes and sleep for another 2 hours.

When I wake up, I slowly sit up and sit at the edge if my bed for a while. I snap out of my daze and reach for my phone.

Where the hell are you?! I read the message from Kailey.

Sorry i should've texted you. I'm not coming to school today. I reply.

Yah, no shit. I'm here all alone! Are you OK?

Yah, I'm fine. I just overslept. I'm coming back tomorrow. No worries. I respond back.

Oh. Ok you want me to skip and come over?

No! Stay in school! Your have missing assignments in like all your classes! She is so smart. She just is super lazy and procrastinates a lot. Unlike me, who is dumb AF and studies 24/7 just so she can get a B+. 

Yah, yah, but I'm not gonna do them in school so why would it make a difference anyway? She responds almost 5 minutes later.

Whatever do what you like. Just don't get caught. I respond already giving up at trying to keep her in school.

OK. Cool. Ill be at your house in like 30 mins. I put my phone down and finally get out of bed. I get out a T-shirt and some shorts and put on my make-up. I go down stairs and see my mom sitting on the kitchen table drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.

"Hey mom!" I say when I reach her.
"Hey baby. Aren't you supposed to be in school?" She asks.
"Yah but I overslept and this is only the third time I'm missing school this semester, so I thought I would be OK." I respond hoping that she won't get mad at me.
"Oh, OK dear. Don't get into any trouble. I'm going to go to the store in like 10 minutes."
"K. I think I'm gonna go for a drive so I might not be home when you come back." I respond.
" OK. That's fine."

I didn't tell her about Kailey skipping cause I know that she would get mad and think we are purposely skipping school.

Soon after my mom leaves Kailey pulls up in my driveway. I hope mom didn't see her. I think to myself.

"Hey" she says as she opens the door and comes in.
"Hi" I reply. "You wanna stay here, or you wanna go do something?" I ask getting up from the table.
"I don't know, up to you. I kinda wanna go to the mall though. I need more clothes.
"K, we can go. Let me know when you're ready. We can take your car just in case my mom comes home and she will wonder why your car is here."
"But then she would see that your car is here and you aren't and she is gonna be worried." Kailey replies. I never thought about that. This is why I love my best friend.
"Oh yah. How bout we park your car at the corner of the block and we take mine." I suggest.
"Yah that'll work." She agrees.

After we spend about 4 hours in the mall, she begs me to go with her and get our hair done. After a long dispute I finally give in and get my hair done with her. She has a great sense of style so style so I let her pick the cut and color for me. She tells the lady to cut it medium length with layers and to do a silver ombre. After about an hour she is done. I look into the mirror and, I actually kinda like it. I turn around to see Kailey.

Kailey got her hair cut too. It was much shorter, above her shoulders, and she had the ends died her hair a chocolate brown and the ends died pink.

"Damn girl! You look good!" She exclaims when she looks at me.
"Shh! Keep your voice down I don't want people looking at me." I scold her.
"Girl, you don't need me to be loud for people to look at you. You look so good!"
"Thanks" I say. "But not as good as you do! Did you see yourself?" I complement her back.
"Thanks I kinda like it too"

After that we head back home. I drop her off by her car and say bye, then drive home. I open my door and walk towards my room. In stop by my mom's before and check on her. She is sleeping on her bed with another vodka bottle in here hand. Goddamn it mom. I think to myself while pulling the bottle out born her hand and placing a pillow under her head. I wasn't even gone for a full day and start drinking. Does she know she starts work in 2 hours?

I set an alarm on my phone to go off in an hour to awake her up. I go into my room and collapse on my bed exhausted from the day. I fall asleep almost instantly.

Soon, my alarm goes off and its 6 o'clock. Ugh... I gotta get up now.

I walk to my mom's room and I see her still sleeping. I walk towards her and shake her slightly. "Mom, wake up" I say in a soothing voice, "it's 6 o'clock now. You need to go to work"

She slowly opens her eyes and when she see's me, she jumps a little. "Oh, thanks for waking me hun. I'm gonna go jump in the shower then I'm gonna go to work OK?" She asks.
"K. That's fine. I'll be in my room" I respond still really tired.
"I like what you did with your hair babe." She adds on just as I'm about to walk out of the room.
"Thanks. Kai...." I trail off remembering that she isn't supposed to know Kailey skipped school too. "I like it too" I quickly add on hooping she didn't hear me. She gives me a little smile then in walk to my room and crash out on my bed. Thank god I didn't see Tristan today. I thought to myself right before falling asleep.
