The Leak

The emergency escape system that had been put in place for The Dome was established in the 2000s, when the Government were unaware that most of the human race's bodies would have electricity in them at some point. Although the boat system was crucial to my survival, many aspects of it were very, very flawed. The only lifeboat I had while I was escaping was wood, meaning that it could break very easily. A flooding rowboat would mean a slow and painful death for us "cyborgs".
The boats could break so easily that even a seal could poke a hole through it if they really wanted to, which was exactly what happened.
A gaping hole, the approximate size of a seal's jaws, was letting in at least a gallon of water a minute. My head spun as I thought of my fate. If at least half of my body got wet, I would malfunction and die. Grabbing my inflatable tube, I decided to huddle in the corner farthest away from the leak, which of course happened to be the farthest away from my survival compartment. My stomach churned as I tried to think of an escape plan. My head swam with thoughts, reviewing every plan I had, but to no avail.
There were no gadgets to help me out now. Fate had hit my Achille's heel, and there was nothing I could do about it.
An ever-loudening sound of humming ran through my head like a white noise machine as my eyes stared blankly ahead of me. My heartbeat and breathing were as slow as a hibernating animal. I had been on low-power mode for the last day, mostly trying to tune out the fact that my boat was sinking and that I would slip into my watery grave with it. I held my knees to my chest and rocked back and forth on the remaining fourth of the boat, hoping that I would wake up and have another eventful day exploring The Dome with Zubin. I pinched myself a couple of times, making sure I wasn't having the most horrible nightmare in my entire life. I quickly figured out that what I was living was real life. As time dragged on, I could feel my body start to malfunction; my arm moved involuntarily and I could feel my body starting to tingle with pins and needles. I even saw a boat on the horizon, even though I didn't believe delusions were a side effect of technological fatalities.
As the imaginary boat neared, water started to lap at my ankles. When "the boat" was a half of a mile away, water was up to my knees. Fire was burning in my bones, electrocuting every part of my body. This was the end; my body was too overwhelmed with water for me to live any longer. Maybe the boat was coming to bring me to heaven. Maybe I was seeing the last of the earth before I passed on. I sat in silence, trying to regain my sanity.
I could hear the sputter of a motorboat coming towards me. Garbage flew everywhere in the wake of the boat.
"JADE!" I heard a male voice call.
Oh my god... My heart stopped.
"Zubin!" I tried to cry out to him, but my voice came out almost inaudibly. Thankfully, he could understand.
"JADE!" He yelled to me again, parking and clambering out of his own boat to reach me. I tried to move, but I was frozen. A loud whizz sounded in my ears.
    I was shutting down.
The shutdown took over every part of my body. My muscles tensed and stiffened. My eyelids came down automatically over my eyes.
"Zubin..." I muttered before I shut down.
"Jade! Jade, don't worry, I'm right here..." I heard Zubin say frantically. The last thing I saw was his blue eyes looking down at me as he carried my limp body towards the motorboat.
