We rode out horses nonstop for a few days. I was tired. The night time light made it worse. I couldn't go to sleep, either, because the mist wolves were always there in the corner of my eye, but when I turned my head to look at them, they were gone.

The only sound was that of the breeze, wafting through the air with a soft whistle. The stars shone softly. They reminded me of when Rory and I lay down next to eachother in his backyard and night. Sometimes the trees would cover out view if we went undee the trees. There was this one tree that we could climb, then we would sit on the branch.

Sometimes Rory would sing softly, in his nice voice, so unlike the voice he used when he was bored. He would try and get me to sing. I never would.

I opened my mouth and sucked in some of the cold air. There was moisture in the air. I could say it tasted nice.

I went into deep thought.

Tessa Burns, Tessa Burns...

I hadn't interacted lots with Tessa Burns. Mostly in school projects that required groups. I had watched her at lunch times sometimes. She had tried to stick up for her friend...Jesse Blackwood.

Wait, there was one thing I had in common with Jesse B. We both got hurt by the people who were against gay rights. Most of them were Christian. There was something in their Holy Bible about it?

Jesse B wasn't gay, though. They called her something else...bisexual.

I felt a hand against my side pushed my upright. I had been leaning to the side. Rory had stopped my from falling off.

"Look, I know you're tired," Rory whispered in my ear,"so let me take over the riding."

I shook my head wearily, forcing myself to keep my eyes open. Reuben was sleeping. I knew that Petra had taught herself to sleep in a way that she wouldn't fall off of her horse.

"You're going to get sick if you keep going on like this." Rory warned me.

"Fine." I conceded.

Jay was being attacked by more faceless creatures. They didn't recieve mercy, but they didn't give LOVE, either.

Jay had a hard time killing them, but she did. Sometimes she got scared that they were out to attack her, but it was only the normal monsters telling her the story...

The sad, sad story...

The story of a prince named Asriel. The story of the human child, Chara. They story of their friendship...betrayal...demise...

It was sadder when Jay could actually hear the words.

At last, she went into the throne room. There was golden flowers on the floor. In the middle of the room, Asgore stood.

"Who's there?" The king asked, not turning around.

He was watering flowers.

"Can I speak to you?" Jay asked.

"Just wait a second, I need to water these flowers..."

Jay waited while Asgore watered the flowers. He finished, then turned to Jay. At first, his face was a mask of horror, then it changed to a beaming face.

"I'm sorry. For a moment I thought you were my son. You look similar to him." Asgore apologized.

"Yes, well, you won't believe why I've come..." Jay waited for a moment, then showed the monster king her soul.

"A monster with a human soul?"

"Not exactly monster. On the way here, I sort of...turned into a monster. I beg you to let me through the barrier."

"I see..."

Asgore studied Jay.

"Follow me, please."

He had a kind face, but anyone could have a kind face.

----------

Rory was riding the horse now, but I found it hard to go to sleep, even if I was tired.

That shadow, a mist wolf?

No, just a tree.

"You know, you can lean on me if you want." Rory whispered.

"Maybe," I said, "but won't that bother you?"

"Geez, Az, you're my best friend. Of course not. The limits to friendship are to no end." Rory grinned.

I think I tried to sleep without leaning on him. Unfortunately for me, I didn't have Petra's ability to sleep without leaning on anything. I think I was so tired I didn't notice I was leaning on Rory. Either way, I went to sleep.
