Chapter 3: I am commentating (Allison's POV)
The lights turned off, and then immediately back on. We weren’t on a stage anymore. We were in a boxing ring. Our podiums were gone. Now we were wearing these skin tight (but breathable) clothes with a loose vest on top and black combat boots. The girls had simple tank tops underneath the vests, and the guys had long sleeve shirts underneath. The material was so tight, it's like they weren't even clothes. There was a stripe that ran down the sides of our black wardrobe that matched the color of our vests. Each leather vest was a different color. Clay’s and mine were red. Connor’s was navy blue, Bri’s was green, and Ellie’s was a light blue. The girls’ hair was styled the same way: in a simple pony tail. While Connor’s and Clay’s hair also had a similar hairstyle. “I hope you like your combat suits. They’re custom made according to each of your abilities. You can keep them if you’d like. I think the look actually works.” The man complimented us. “Your first test is to fight each other. It is a test to see how well you know the strengths and weaknesses of your friends. Each of you fights once against one person.”
“But sir, there are five people. Who does the fifth person fight?”
“They have the option of letting me choose or choosing for themselves. S there will actually be one person fighting twice. Each round lasts for 5 minutes. The first person to tap out loses. The winners get to choose their path for the second round. No fake fighting. I have eyes everywhere. Ready?”
“How do we know who we’re fighting?” Ellie asked. “I was GETTING to that part, missy. Calm down.” He waited for the lights to turn on and off and a small table appeared in front of us. There were five dominoes on the table. “I know where the names are. Once one person chooses, I will take the domino with your name on it. Now who picks first?”
“I will,” Bri volunteered. She stepped up to the table and drew a domino. Before she looked, the man took the domino on the far right. I assumed that that was Bri’s domino. She turned around to face us and showed us her domino.
Connor Kent
The first round would be Bri vs. Connor. “Don’t hold back, just because I’m a girl ‘kay, Connor?” Connor nodded. Clay volunteered to draw next. He drew his domino, and the man took away another. Clay looked at me. Shit. Both of us had the same ability. Fire wouldn’t work on either one of us, so we’d have to do this the old fashioned way. He stood next to me, as Ellie went up to the table. The man put all of the dominoes back onto the table and shuffled them in a flash. Ellie’s hand fell on one of them as she nervously picked it up. It was Connor. Connor had to fight twice. The man willed the table to vanish, and forced Clay, Ellie, and I out of the ring. This was going to be an interesting fight. “Popcorn? Nuts? No? Would you like to commentate instead?” the man offered. “What? I’m not that dreadful. I can have some fun to. Do you want to see me twerk?”
“PASS,” I responded immediately. “Do you want to commentate?” Clay asked me. “Are you serious? You actually want to commentate?” He nodded, and I hesitantly went with him. Two microphones appeared in front of us right outside of the boxing ring. “Hello. My name is Clay Parks and I’m joined here today with-“
“Allison Williams. We’ll be your commentators for today’s fight as well as the competitors for the next round.”
“Just like old times, eh Allison?”
“That’s right, Clay, but right now we’re focusing on the current fight that is happening right here right now. And here comes the ref. to announce our competitors!”
“Thank you Miss Williams. Iiiiiiin this corner. He’s known as Superboy, the son of the man of steel himself. Connooooooooooor Kent. And in this corner. The daughter of the dark knight. She’s the lean, mean, green machine. Briiiiiiiiiiii Wayne.”
Ellie cheered behind us. The fight began.
“And they’re off! Well, Clay I must say that I think this will be a very interesting match. Two super strong heroes who have known each other since one of them was a baby. Can you believe it?”
“It’s unbelievable, and speaking of unbelievable, Connor is getting back up from that astonishing blow from Bri. Bri is at the top of her game today!”
“Well, hold on a second, Clay. Connor’s fighting back as well. Bri must’ve taken a lot of damage from that kick. LOVE YOU, CONNOR! Sorry I couldn’t resist. GO BRI!”
“You know, I can’t help but notice that you’re a little torn between the two sides, Allison. Would you care to explain to the other viewers why that is?”
“Clay, there’s only one viewer. But I’ll explain anyway! Connor and I are actually in a very healthy relationship. But Bri and I are extremely close as well. Look at that form from Brianna Wayne! Perfect sidekicks and dismounts. I can tell that Connor really isn’t holding back. That spin kick was perfect! Can we get a slow motion replay on that?” A large screen appeared on the opposite side of the ring and displayed the slow-motion replay. I didn’t think that they were ACTUALLY going to do that.
“There are thirty seconds left on the clock, and both players are still standing strong, but which one will fall first?”
“Oh hold on a second, Clay. Bri is really trying to take Connor down. She’s throwing punches like a maniac. But what’s this? None of them are affecting Connor Kent! What a guy! Connor finally decides to hit back and Bri takes a hard one from Connor! But does she have the strength to get back up? YES SHE DOES!”
“Looks like Miss Wayne is bringing in the big guns. There’s a commotion on the floor of the whole stadium. What is Brianna Wayne trying to pull here?” Right as Clay finished that sentence, gigantic tree roots crashed through the floor of the boxing ring. The roots wrapped around Connor. Connor started struggling to get out, but he stopped after a while. The tree roots were getting tighter. Connor tapped out right as time was up. “BRIANNA WAYNE IS THE WINNER!” the man announced, holding her hand up in victory. The roots that held Connor captive were released, and Connor was on his knees breathing heavily. Bri rushed over immediately to help him up. “For a second there, I actually thought you were going to kill me.”
“Good game, Connor. That was fun,” Bri said holding her hand out. Connor shook it, and they hugged it out. “What a touching ending to a marvelous fight. The next round will feature us, actually, so see you in a few.”
