Chapter 4: Fire vs. Fire (Clay’s POV)

“WE want a good clean fight, okay? Shake hands,” the referee said. “Good Luck, bro. Even though we’re siblings, I won’t go easy on you.”

“Me neither. Good luck, sis.”

We both turned back to our corners. The bell rang, and I was surrounded in my own flames. Allison’s flames were just as big and bright as mine. This wasn’t going to be easy. “You want to make this a little more interesting?” she asked me. Her eyes were a fiery red now. “How?” I asked. She hurled her fire to me, and I swallowed. “I’m not going easy, I’m testing my strength.” I returned the favor by doing the same to her. Each of our fires had turned from red to black. “I want a fair fight.” We charged and let it all out. Her technique and form had really improved. The nights of training in the mansion had really paid off for her. I grabbed her arm and flipped her onto the floor. I had pinned her down. “Remember when we did this?” I asked nostalgically. “Yeah. You remember this?” she said as she kicked me straight to the ceiling. I fell to the ring and landed thankfully on my feet. I had made a small dent in the floor. I had an idea. Maybe if Allison wasn’t grounded, she’d be weaker. “Um, sir? Does the fight have to stay in the ring?”

“No, I guess not.”

I smiled at the thought. I focused, and pretty soon, there were mini rockets at the bottom of my feet. I levitated into the air. Flying with air-born shoes was harder than it looked. I looked at the clock. 2 minutes were left in the round. I had finally managed to get my balance as Allison joined me in the air. She was wobbling, and I had to admit it was kind of funny to watch. I took the chance and pushed her against the back wall. Allison made a crack against the wall. I hope I didn’t go too far. “You’re pretty strong, Clay,” she admitted as she separated herself from the wall. She flew up and grabbed a bar that was attached to the ceiling by strings. She grabbed it and rotated her body around the bar. She slowly grew faster and faster and she had finally let go. Soon, there was a blazing bullet of fire that was headed straight towards me. Using the architecture to increase her speed. Clever. It was a hard blow that pushed me to the ground of the ring. I basically made a Clay-sized hole in the boxing ring floor. But I wasn’t about to give up. I shot up to face my sister. “Boy, when you said you were going all out, you were going all out, weren’t you?” Allison said playfully as I threw a punch at her face. “Have I ever lied to you? Oh, wait, don’t answer that question.”

“YES, you have lied to me!” There were five seconds left on the clock. “Let’s end this with a bang, shall we?” We shot at each other at top speed, and our fists collided. I remember falling to the ground. The bell rang right as we landed. “IT’S A FLIPPING TIE!” the referee announced. “There are no losers for this round, folks. I’m afraid the next match is canceled, though.”

“What? Why?” I asked, still lying down, exhausted.

“Well, you guys basically destroyed the arena.” I didn’t notice until he had pointed it out. I wasn’t lying on the floor of the boxing ring because there was no floor. Those last two punches really hit hard and when we fell, we basically crashed through the floor and destroyed it. There were massive cracks in the walls of the arena and the light fixture were flickering and swinging back and forth. The only things undamaged were the seats. But even they had pieces from the ceiling on top of them. “We went overboard, didn’t we?” I asked Allison, even though I couldn’t see her. “Ohhhh yeah,” I heard her say back. Despite all of the possible broken bones in my body, I forced myself to get up. I cringed when I leaned on my left leg. My first priority was to heal my sister. I limped to where she had landed and gave her some fire to eat. She steadied her breathing and her injuries slowly healed. She gave me some of her fire, and returned the favor. My leg and my other limbs didn’t hurt anymore. I was still a little tired, though. I helped up my sister and I held her hand as we walked back to our friends. I gave Allison to Connor. She needed him. I sat down in one of the seats and waited for something to happen. “You guys should get some rest. I’ll see you all tomorrow afternoon for the next and last challenge.”
