Chapter 10: I give up
I wish this had never happened, I thought to myself as tears flooded down my face and onto my chest. If I had never discovered my powers, then I never would've met my brother, and I never would have been dumb enough to leave him on his own. When I grabbed Ellie and Bree by the wrists, I didn't account on not knowing where to go to get out. I opened the door and shut it behind me, and I was faced with a sea of old fashioned wooden carriages being pulled by people in rough brown cloaks. Obviously this generation of vampires was new and hadn't exactly grasped the concept of cars, or even horses. I did the only thing I could think of in a split second. I let go of the girls and waited. A carriage soon passed, and I didn't hesitate to grab him by the neck and cover his mouth. I pulled him to the side and Bree and Ellie dragged the carriage full of crates behind me. I felt the vampire's fangs lightly scrape my palm. I pushed against the side of a hut and rammed my fist into his stomach. "Listen up, bitch. I just lost the only family that I'll probably ever see again to your kind. You don't want to piss me off right now." The vampire curled up into a ball onto the ground. I took his cloak and tossed it to Bree, knowing she was the strongest and out of the three of us, she was also the fastest. Ellie and I jumped into the back of the carriage and hid amongst the crates. We started moving. "Ex-brother and ex-boyfriend in sight," Bri whispered to us while pulling us. "I never said I was breaking up with Conner!"
"Oh, well I just thought-"
"No, no you're probably right. I don't think I'll ever see either of them again." The tears started welling up inside me again. I took a deep breath and forced it aside. "Avoid them at all costs. The exit I think is to the left of the hut we were in. Head that way and go straight. If they see you, start sprinting. Ellie, if it comes to that, do you think you can help Bri run at the front?"
"Sure but what will you do? You didn't strike me as one of those people who would let everyone else do the work," Ellie asked.
"I'll defend us from here. It's probably the best way for me to get over.. what happened. But until then you have to wait here with me."
"Well, you won't have to wait very long," a voice in the distance yelled. Damn Conner and his hearing. I peeked through the crates and I could see Conner, Clay, and a handful of other people coming staring us, pushing carts out of the way to make a path. Ellie jumped out of the crates and joined Bri. Unfortunately, the vampire's didn't have the speed of a normal human. Bri and Ellie together were barely enough to stay at least 5 yards in front of them. From the back of the carriage, I threw everything I had at them, until itvwas just Conner and Clay. Maybe they were still in there. It was highly unlikely, but maybe. Just maybe. I must have lost focus, because one of my attacks hit Conner. "OH MY GOD!" I jumped off the cart, tucked, rolled, and ran to his side. He rolled onto his back on the ground. Clay had continued running after the carriage. He was clutching the side of his head and groaning in pain. "OH MY GOD, CONNER I'M SO SORRY! I DIDN'T MEAN TO HIT YOU, ARE YOU OK?" Still clutching his head, he slowly sat up. He opened his eyes to look at me. And for a second, I thought he was back. Yeah, I thought wrong. He smirked and removed his hand from his forehead. How could I have forgotten? Superboy was fireproof. He thrust his elbow into my gut and I crumpled to the floor. "That was truly touching. Too bad your boyfriend wasn't here to see it." His red eyes glinted. "See, that right there, is your weakness- Allison! Help me he's keeping me prisoner in my head!" he said, but he was having trouble talking. Was that Conner? "You have to kiss me! Only love is strong enough to break him!" It was! Why would a vampire ask for a kiss? He collapsed onto the ground. He looked into my eyes intently, and they sparkled. I swept my hair away from my face and leaned in. We kissed, but something was wrong. When I opened my eyes, his lips let go of mine, and he smiled. "I love you," he said. He pulled me into his arms. Still, something was wrong. I felt him breathing on my neck. I pulled away, realizing he was trying to bite me. I couldn't hurt him so I started running, looking for the carriage with Bri and Ellie. Ellie didn't know how to use her powers and she wasn't strong enough to pull the cart. "Told you that was your weakness," I heard him say not far behind me. My feet were starting to numb from running, but I willed them to push off the ground for a little longer. UGH! I wish I could fly! My anger triggered my fire. The answer was right there the whole time. I leaped off of the ground, and shot forward; the fire acting as a rocket to push me. The tears flooded again. I gave up on wishing. Conner wasn't coming back.
I had been flying for a while, but I hadn't seen the carriage. And when I looked behind me, Conner wasn't there. He must've let me go. It was probably part of a plan. Conner wasn't the type of guy who just gave up on what he wanted. "Allison, help!" I thought I heard someone scream. I willed myself to go faster and I had finally caught up with the carriage. Bri was tied to the carriage. "Allison! You have to help Ellie!" I looked at the back of the carriage. Clay was sitting there, with an unconscious Bri in his arms. His red eyes fell on me. "If I can't turn you, your friends will."
