Chapter 10

Lifepaw yawned and stepped outside. She jumped back in surprise when the ground felt cold under paw. She looked down to see a thick blanket of snow. Small specks of white floated from the sky and landed on Lifepaw's fur. She shook herself in annoyance and padded over to Flamestorm who was sitting near the warrior's den.

"Hi Flamestorm!" Lifepaw greeted.

Flamestorm looked up, "Oh hi!" he meowed. Ivypaw slipped out of the warriors den. Lifepaw rolled her eyes in annoyance. What now?

"Hi Flamestorm!" she purred, "My warrior ceremony is today and I made sure to make my nest next to yours!" she licked his cheek and padded away, nudging Lifepaw over. She hissed in return, but the silver she cat ignored her. Flamestorm wiped the place she had licked him with his paw.

"Ugh she just won't leave me alone." he whispered, "I'm just glad you aren't as annoying." Lifepaw smirked and tossed a clump of snow that landed in his face. He jumped back with surprise and shook the snow off. "You asked for it!" he meowed playfully and flung snow on Lifepaw. It seeped through her fur and soaked his pelt. The snow made her topple over and Flamestorm took the chance to cover her with more. When Lifepaw finally wriggled out, snow was caked in her fur. She shook the snow out, but her pelt was still soaking.

Before she had a chance to groom herself, Vinestar leaped on clanrock and yowled for a clan meeting to start. Lifepaw and Flamestorm sat down next to each other. Ivypaw sat in the front, her pelt perfectly groomed and her amber eyes shining,

"Do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?" Vinestar yowled.

"I do!" Ivypaw meowed quickly.

"Then by the powers of Starclan," Vinestar began, "from this moment on, you will be known as Ivybreeze!" The clan cheered her name and Ivybreeze beamed with pride. She gazed longingly at Flamestorm, who simply rolled his eyes and looked away. Lifepaw scooted closer to him while he wasn't looking. Flamestorm turned around and accidentally bumped into Lifepaw.

"Oh, sorry. I didn't see you." he meowed.

"It's ok." Lifepaw meowed. To her surprise, Flamestorm shared the same nervous tone Lifepaw had when she talked to Flamestorm. She shook the thought away.

"Want to go to our secret spot?" Lifepaw asked.

"That sounds nice." Flamestorm purred. Lifepaw sat up and padded through the fern tunnel. Flamestorm followed her closely.

They slipped into the tunnel and had to push through a thin layer of snow to get out. When they finally scrambled out, their pelts were dusted with snow. Should I tell him? Lifepaw wondered.

"Flamestorm?" she mewed nervously.

"Yes?" he replied. Lifepaw nervously shuffled her paws.

"Well I've been meaning to tell you-" Lifepaw was interrupted when Ivybreeze burst out of a clump of ferns on the opposite side of the river.

"You two! I new it!" Ivybreeze hissed. Lifepaw slid her claws out. "I always new you were cheating on me Flamestorm! And you, Lifepaw, are a mate stealer. Now I've caught you breaking the Warrior Code. Just wait until Vinestar hears this!"

"No Ivybreeze!" Flamestorm hissed. Ivybreeze looked back.

"You should have called for me before you betrayed me!" she hissed and disappeared into the bushes. Lifepaw and Flamestorm exchanged worried glances. I'm the first cat in Lifeclan to break the warrior code!

"Do you smell that?" Flamestorm asked curiously. Lifepaw breathed deeply. The suspicious smell flooded her nose.

"Yes, but I don't think this is the time to be sniffing for prey!" she meowed.
