Chapter thirteen

199 19 6

Sherlock landed with a thump against the cold concrete, pain shot up his left wrist into his fingertips. His phone was still clutched in his right hand, the metallic beep signaling that there was no signal. His eyes found his left wrist and gingerly touched it; a ring of silvery metal had clasped itself to his wrist.

Titanium; Ti, atomic number=22, transition metal, extremely strong.

Sherlock rolled his eyes, ordinary people always using Titanium. Typical.

Sherlock felt around his surroundings, the floor where he was sitting on was about 29℃, someone or something had been sitting here perhaps just minutes ago. The air had a metallic tint to it, not quite earthly but Sherlock supposed he had been sent to the past. He examined the metal around his wrist again and tried to pry it off, but it was dead sealed. There was however, a bright red light in the middle of the apparatus, sporadically beaming on and off. No pattern of any kind could be applied to the red light.

He slowly got up into a standing-crouching position, and brought out from his coat pocket, a small flash light. The glow of the light seemed blinding after just about two minutes in the dark and Sherlock squinted, gradually growing accustomed to the thin strand of light. Straight in front of him, a shimmering field of blue-ish light separated him from the rest of the room. He moved closer, glancing around, the force field had him surrounded in a circle with a 5 meter radius with no exit, no one around.

So why had the floor felt like it had just been sat on afore moments ago?

Unless it was he who had been sitting here all that time, unconscious and unknowing, perhaps he had been here for several hours and it simply felt like three minutes.

Or it could've been occupied by someone beforehand, and they have evacuated this prison just prior of his arrival and set up the force field when he arrived.

Sherlock realized it couldn't be the past in which the angel had sent him, if Gabriel had been right, she was simply sent backwards in time, but she was still on earth. Now Sherlock doubted whether this was his home planet.

A few days ago, he would've chastised even John for thinking such nonsense as time travel, and as hard as it may seem, Lestrade had been right. There were far too many peculiar things that modern day science couldn't explain and he'd known it to be true.

After all, hadn't he taken the case because the impossible seemed to have become possible?

The outside of the prison -for Sherlock had decided that this was some sort of prison- composed mostly of large white desks and white chairs, on the walls hung some strange apparatus Sherlock have never seen before, they too, were of the color white. Peculiar shadows nestled upon the rectangular room, like dark clouds setting on a sunless day, they came out quite suddenly, seeming to loom over all else. Sherlock had long since passed the lonely childhood of being afraid of shadows, but a sense of foreboding gave away to all else in his mind. Rationality urged not to fall prey to his instincts, but that nagging little voice mrumured, careful, careful, careful.

"Oh shut up, John." He said, realizing a second too late that John wasn't beside him.

Then the sudden and alarmingly distant sound of heels clipping on ground grew outside from the opposite corner of the room. A woman's voice -in her mid-thirties by the sound of it- rang out, it was muffled at first, but five seconds later Sherlock could make out her words.

"It is a gamble no doubt about it... we must do whatever it takes to save them... yes sir I do understand... Article 18 of the Shadow Proclamation... and here he is!"

She then came into view, a tall thin woman about 38 or 39, coal black hair cut at shoulder length, cold blue eyes laughing. The woman pressed a couple of buttons of a device in her hand and instantly the room flooded with fluorescent light.

"Who are you? Why have you brought me here?"

The woman smiled without humour, "funny you should ask, why don't you deduce it yourself, Mister Holmes? Or are we too frightened?"

It was the same, it was the same with the Woman, Sherlock couldn't deduce a single thing about the newcomer. She was too well disguised.

"Since you've asked, I am Madam Psyche, and you, Mister Holmes, will come with me."

Madam Psyche pressed a few more buttons and the force field instantly evaporated. She then turned briskly and headed to another door, adjacent to the one she came in.

"Follow me Mister Holmes, and don't try to escape, the teleport on your left wrist and can release a nasty shock of electricity that would cause at least, some degree of pain."

Sherlock didn't try to call her bluff and followed her, some part of him searched for an escape plan, maybe wrestling the device out of her hands and - then what? He couldn't possibly do much in this situation, let alone escape. So he followed Psyche through white corridors white rooms and finally, into a room similar to his own.

Madam Psyche pressed a few more buttons and again, the room lit up. Sherlock glanced around, the exact same doors and chairs and apparatus in exactly the same place as in his room and at the end of the room, a man of about 30 stood behind the force field, wearing suspenders, a white shirt and a bowtie. A faint smile played at his lips but Sherlock knew rage beyond anything was boiling in the man's heart.

"Well, well, look what we have here," Psyche said, turning to face Sherlock, "The Doctor, and Sherlock Holmes. Two of the greatest minds in history." She said history with a sort of delight, and clasped her hands together. "Now you two catch up, say whatever you like, and do exercise your minds for the grand finale. Oh but this is marvelous! Doctor can't you see? The brilliant dawn that awaits us, and you two will make it happen."

With a unnatural force for a human, she shoved Sherlock towards the force field, in a split second, had opened and closed it again, trapping Sherlock and the Doctor inside.

Author's Notes:

I absolutely loved doing this chapter, and I hope you enjoyed reading! Please tell me whether I should continue with Sherlock's POV or switch to John in the next chapter, stay tuned, and Allons-y!
