Over the course of seven days and seven nights, the goddess's army fought valiantly against the army of the Demon King. Vast numbers of humans were slaughtered. But, few though they were, the courageous people continued to fight, their resolve unwavering. Link's plan was working. He knew that the enemy would expect them to take the safe passage past Eldin Volcano and not Faron woods, which the demon king had presumed burnt by the flames.

The group led by Zant did eventually encounter the demon king's forces but the enemy, expecting an assault from the Eldin province, were taken unawares when the human force advanced through the Faron pass. Their advantage brought hundreds of enemies down before the first human life was lost. Despite the initial success, the human forces were cut a mighty number, though their morale was high, and they emerged victorious.

Ghirahim's forces were full front in Eldin and that is where the great battle took place. As the knights of Hylia fought valiantly, Link kept his eyes open, waiting. And sure enough, Ghirahim appeared atop a hill in a cloud of violet diamonds. He snapped his fingers and Stalfos entered the fray. Link knew the numbers were a distraction. Cut the head off the snake, and the footsoldiers would collapse.

With the Master Sword's help, he cleaved through the battlefield, a whirlwind of fury, and when his great spin toppled whole lines of bokoblins, cheers met Link, and the brave men of Hylia pressed on more determined than ever. Link had sliced a line to the demon lord, and sprinting the last few metres, he leapt high into the air, Master Sword raised skyward, ready to bring it down in a final swing. Ghirahim, delightfully skewering a Hylian soldier, felt the wind part above him, and he glanced up quickly, raising his hand and catching the blade. It halted his sudden demise, but the being of evil he was, he could not hold the sword of evil's bane for very long. Already it burned, burned with an intensity to match the sun. With a wicked sheam, a burst of energy sent Ghirahim hurtling into some nearby Technoblins. Hissing furiously, he swung his own blade to the right then shot at Link.

"If you're so intent on hurrying to your grave, I'll be happy to show you the way. I was a fool to toy with you and let you walk away with your life before, but I won't make that mistake again."

Link gritted his teeth, catching his breath. Glancing around, he felt dismayed at the sight of countless bodies, but he couldn't show fear in the face of this flamboyant freak.

"Cease your pointless taunts, demon. I am not so weak as to let them affect my resolve."

"Ooh, how spicy! I admit, I thought you no more threatening than a Kikwi with a nasty bite. I am glad my Stalfos did not finish you. That honour falls to me!"

Link spat, then gripped the Master Sword more firmly.

"Try and hit me, demon. If your mastery of the blade is as lame as your bickering, I shall have nothing to fear."

"Ooh, I like you. A swift death you shall not have, and I shall enjoy your screams like sweet music!"

Ghirahim snapped his fingers and a second sword appeared in his left hand. He charged at Link and swung his left sword in a swooping arc at Link's face. Link parried the blow and sent his own strike at Ghirahim who dodged it with a back flip. Link ran at him and thrust at the demon lord's heart, but abruptly Ghirahim vanished. Link turned around and only managed to block Ghirahim's sword blow with his own. After a few more parries, Link started to see a pattern in Ghirahim's fighting style and slowly he managed to deal a few blows. Just when he thought he saw his victory, Ghirahim changed his usual attacks and started to summon daggers with a feint red glow. Magically infused, they would do more damage. Without a shield he could not block them but a few flips and sidesteps were enough to avoid a hit. He made it look like he was just dodging the daggers, but slowly Link edged forward with each dodge until he judged the time right. With a yell he charged at the demon lord and delivered a blow that would have killed any man. But Ghirahim was no ordinary man. He started to gasp and then vanished and appeared a few metres back.
