I was still in shock of what I have seen yesterday.
Follow the tracks point where all lines intercept. There are maps at the crossings to help guide you with your journey. Terminus. Sanctuary for all. Community for all. Those who arrived survived.
The helicopter was just above the houses in our desserted town. It was blocks away but I couldn't be wrong of what I heard it was trying to say.
It was getting closer from where we are staying. I peeked though the window and saw flyers everywhere. It must have been a guide or a map.
Our neighbor who was living in front of our house came out of his door. He grabbed a piece of paper which has been given away by those people in the helicopter.
A walker started to show up my sight. Its feet was twisted, and I could see its rotting flesh from here. It was heading to the man who just came out of his house.
"Look ou.." I tried to warn him but someone shut me up. His hands are around my mouth. Enough for me not to warn that poor man outside.
"Try not to make any noise. Let's keep it quiet here." My dad said, letting go of me.
It was too late then. The walker already landed itself to the man, sending them in to the ground. It started to rip off the man's flesh in the neck. He was screaming in pain and it kills me not to do something. All the time he was trying to survive meant nothing. He was already bit.
Just then we heard a loud crash, blocks away from us. It was the helicopter.
The moans and the growling of the dead go closer to us.
We realized that the noise of the helicopter, and its crash must have attracted walkers around the perimeter.
It might has been a trap. Shit!
"Grab your bag. We're leaving. Now!" Mom said, knowing the crash already caught too much attention from the walkers.
I grab hold of my bag. Necessary things are packed here in case something bad goes wrong. Something like this.
We ran down the stairs. Quietly yet fast enough for us to escape this mess.
"Hide to the bush." Dad said, motioning us where to go.
The three of us docked enough for us not to be seen by the walkers roaming around.
"We cannot pass through this horde. There's too many of them." Mom explained, worries showed up her face.
"Wait. I've got a plan." I put my bag down and searched through it. I grab a bottle of wine. There was only half of it, enough for me to distract the horde passing by.
I inserted a towel to the bottle and turned it down for the wine to reach the towel. Then I lit it with the lighter.
I threw it to a car which made it on fire. The horde was now drawn to its explosion. They started to come over the burning car.
We started to walk away from that direction. I let out a sigh of relief. It was good to be back on the road again.
After hours of walking, and killing things that are already dead, we reached a store. A liquor store.
We thought we could stay a while for it was already getting dark.
Dad motioned us to back up and be ready to kill something inside. He swung the door open.
I grab hold of my gun and started to explore my gaze to the store. I saw chairs piled up by the counter.
A walker started to appear. It was bigger than me.
Mom raised her gun and so did my dad.
"It's okay." I said, motioning them to put down their guns. "I got this."
I pulled down some chairs. The walker started to come over me. I put down my gun and grabbed my knife instead. Close enough for me to grab its shoulder and stab its head.
The counter was clear and we drag the lifeless body around the corner. We couldn't sleep knowing that it was around our sight.
We decided to stay here for a while. We started to unpack our sleeping bags to get rest we needed to survive another day.
I was about to close my eyes until mom turned to me.
"That was very brave of you, Erin." She said, with a tear running down her cheek.
I gave her a smile knowing that I could have not done it without them. They are the only reason why I keep going.
I was between the two of them. Enough for me to feel safe again. For where they are, is the only safe place I can find.
**A/N: I'm sorry for unpublishing the first two parts (previously entitled How You Meet and On The Road) because new ideas came up to me and made me put this one. I'm in to re-writing and expanding this book. I really hope you'll like it and enjoy reading. I can't wait to share more with you lovelies!
