(Based off the Book and some parts are in the movie).

Today is the day of the Reaping Day. Yay...not. It's not fun...not fun at all. Why? It's because one male and one female are chosen to fight it The Hunger Games. You get put in the glass reaping bowls at age 12, and get taken out when you turn 19. So, basically ages 12-18. It's an important day, so which the Capitol calls it. It's nerve racking because you never know when your name could be called.

My home is District 5. Our district produces Power for the Capitol and Panem. We have a huge dam here in District 5. My mother passed away a few years ago. I'm now left alone with a clumsy 9- year old sister and an annoying 13-year old brother. My father doesn't do much but hunt for our family. We're not poor, it's just a hobby he enjoys doing.

Every reaping we have to be, moderately fancy. Only because the Capitol is fancy, and not to mention richer than all of the districts. The richest districts are probably districts 1 & 2 and possibly 4. These districts are the Career Districts, in which they get trained their whole lives to be in The Hunger Games. A career usually wins every year, but each district has at least 1 victor.

My brother, Finn, is getting washed up. I make sure that he has good clothing picked out, and same with my sister, Fawn. I already have my clothing on, because I am an early bird, and I enjoy seeing what happens in the morning. I have some time to spare, so I decided to head downstairs and have a small breakfast for them. I take down bowls from the cupboard and fill them with dry cereal. My dad is out, probably hunting, so I have to take care of my siblings. They both come down and start eating. I don't have to worry about Fawn that much because she isn't in the reaping bowls, but Finn is. I am smart, and every morning when they wake up I tell them a fact. "Did you know that when rabbits jump, run or flick their feet they are showing off an expression of joy, and they usually call this matter 'binky." I say. Fawn loves rabbits, so her face lights up with joy.

Once we are finished, we decided to head over to the reaping area. It's hot out and everyone is sweating. We line up at a table. A woman just pricks your finger for a blood sample, so they know you arrived at the reaping. I follow into my side, which is the female side. Before I do, I spot dad and I tell Fawn to go to him. We wait a few minutes for everyone to get settled in. Then, a woman steps up on the stage. She's odd looking. "Ahh! A new year for the Hunger Games!" She's yells in the microphone. "Here is a lovely video brought to you straight from the Capitol!" There is no difference, we watch this video every year. She claps when the video is over. She clears her throat. "Now it is time to choose a female tribute for District 5!" She walks over to the glass bowls and chooses a slip of paper. "Finch Crossly!" My heart stops. Oh my... It's me... Scared I head up to the stage. I can't win this. I have no skills. The woman walks over to the male reaping bowls and also chooses a slip of paper. "Dean Hood!" Ugh... Anybody but him! He is in my grade because he is 15, also... And he's quite awkward... we are told to go to the train so we can head on to the Capitol. We are on a time limit I guess... I will just write a letter to my family on the way to The Capitol.
