Chapter 4-Red Eyes

 Joey's POV

I noticed there was now a blanket wrapped around me, I didn't realize how freezing I was until I felt it against my skin.

"I thought you looked cold…"

"Shane?"

"Yes Joey?"

"What are you doing here?"

"I got here a couple hours ago, I used to come almost every day and watch the sunset. It's kinda nice to have some peace and quiet every once in a while."

Damn, that's deep. I've never seen this side of him.

"Wait, so you've been standing here for hours and I didn't even know it?"

"Hahaha no Joey,  I thought you were some random guy here for the same reason I was, so I didn't bother you and went and laid in the middle of the field for a few hours. Then when I was walking back to my car I realized you were still in the same position as I last saw you, I got worried, came to investigate, and recognized your Joey-ness. You looked really cold so I put the blanket on you, and now we're here."

I laughed at the term "Joey-ness".

"Oh….thanks Shane. Wanna sit?"

"Sure."

He sat down right next to me. Just an inch or two away.

The clouds were moving pretty fast, so every couple minutes the moon's glow would shine down on his face, irradiating him.

It was still raining pretty hard. His hair was soaked. It stuck together in bunches, strewn across his forehead. I'm guessing I was pretty drenched, too. My front side had been shielded by the water when it was down, but now the water was streaming down my face. My eyes were starting to hurt, so I kept rubbing them.

"Are you crying?"

"No, my eyes burn. I think the product from my hair is washing into them."

"Shit...don't you use that salt spray stuff?"

"Yea…"

"That can't be helping any. Here, open your eyes and look up. Squeezing them shut will make it worse, and maybe the rain will get it out."

I forced my eyes open and tilted my head back, letting the droplets fall into my eyes. Shane caught some water in his hands and scrubbed all the product out of my hair. "Your hair is really soft without all that mousse and gel in it." We both laughed.

After a minute or two, it stopped burning, and I wiped my face off, ridding any excess hair product from falling into the different holes of my head.

"Look at me." Shane said.

I looked into his eyes.

"They're a little red..."

He kind of just sat there, staring at me. I don't think he meant to though. It was obvious he couldn't really tell what was going on.

His hair looked like it was blocking whatever vision he had with that hair cut, so I cupped his cheek with my hand, keeping his face still, and used the other hand to push the wet, wispy strands of hair out of his eyes. It made them brighter, and more beautiful. That was definitely true, because now I was the one staring.
