Chapter 7-Okay? Okay.

Shane's POV

I awoke to the potent smell of pancakes, and the scintillating sun glaring at me through the wide open window.

Dragging myself out of the comfort and warmth of the sheets and blankets, I made my way to the kitchen to see a showered, glowing Joey behind a sizzling frying pan. Sitting in the pan was a exceptionally large pile of bacon, and beside it lay bubbling, pale pancakes on a black skillet.

Three glasses of orange juice sat on the counter beside him.

"Morning Chef Joe-ardee", I giggled as he jumped, startled.

"Good Morning, Shane!"

"Why are you making breakfast?", I asked.

"Remember our deal last night? If you carried me inside, I would make you breakfast! Well…you carried me, it's morning now, and there's bacon and pancakes sizzlin' so get your booty to the table!" I laughed at his ridiculously large grin and gathered myself enough to ask him another question.

"Alright Joey, but why are there three glasses of orange juice?"

"Oh I hope you don't mind! I invited Lisa over to eat breakfast with us."

"Why would I mind? She's kinda my girlfriend."

He blushed deeply as I padded over to the table. I couldn't help but notice the unmistakable change of emotion that washed over his face at my remark, and I couldn't quite understand what had happened. He's not one to openly state what's going on in that head of his, so I chose to change the subject instead. "Joebro, want me to set the table?" He was staring, deep in thought, at his pile of bacon, and it took him a few seconds to register what I had said. He took a deep breath before turning his face to answer me, and that miserable expression had been drained from his features.

Weird.

"Joebro..? Also, shootity shoot shoot girl, you know it!"

I tried to ignore the fact that he had totally just altered his emotions in front of me with a simple inhale, but it wouldn't flee my mind. Even though there was an obvious elephant in the room that we shouldn't ignore, I figured I should probably get the table set before Lisa showed up. So I found three plates in the cupboard, and fiddled with all of the silverware, dropping a few on the floor when I bent down to grab some napkins from the bottom cabinet. Joey looked at me with amusement in his expression, "Smooth, Dawson." I stuck my tongue out at him and collected new silverware before striding into the dining room. Moments later, I heard a knock on the door, and went to answer it.

I opened it to see Lisa, her hair iridescent under the sun's glow. "Hey baby." I whispered into her ear as I wrapped my arms around her.

"Uh..hey Shane..? What's wrong?"

Shit, play it cool, Dawson.

"Nothing, I just missed you."

She laughed her wondrous laugh, flashing that bright smile. "Oh, well I missed you too babe."

"Come on in!"

Joey's POV

I listened as Shane and Lisa walked down the hallway, chatting away. His enormous grin divulged how absolutely ecstatic he was to see her.

I hate to admit it, but I was jealous.

It was my fault for inviting her to eat with us, but it's the least I could do after all of her worrying the past night. Plus I kissed her boyfriend…what, four times already? I was beginning to wonder if this whole shebang would become an annual thing between him and I. Friendly bonding during the day and long, heated nights every once in a while didn't sound too bad. Frankly, it was more appealing than not.
