'And five, six, seven, eight.'
Eadlyn's voice drowned out the intro of Miranda Lambert's song Automatic, which was currently blasting on the stereo.
We were on the beach, practicing our routine for the competition for the seventh time in a row. All of us were completely groggy and tired of dancing in the sand. Well, all of us, except the Always energized Eadlyn. The dictator in her had surfaced a few hours ago and she was making us dance and sing until we would perform the whole routine flawless.
Let me tell you that dancing barefoot on warm sand will kill your feet. Mine were red and scratchy and I was pretty sure they would fall off any second.
I wasn't the only one. Caleb, who was standing on my left, was massaging his foot, trying to bring it alive again, but failing miserably. On my right, Sammi was laying on her stomach in the sand. Her head was resting on her arms and her eyes where shut. She looked very peasefull, sleeping like that. Ethan was standing, streching his arms and legs.
'Not again, Eady. We are tired. We need water,' Chelsea sighed. She whiped some sweat from her forehead with her t-shirt.
'Yeah, come on. We just nailed the routine and it is just the first day of practice. We can practice again next week,' Hunter said.
Eadlyn shook her head, her hands reasting on her hips. She looked at us from behind her glasses with a stern expression in her eyes. 'If we want to win, we need to be prepared.'
'But we are prepared. We have been practicing since our last class finsished. We all know the routine by hard. Let's just chill and continue practice tomorrow,' Ethan answered.
'Yes, please let's chill. We can all use a little time off,' Janis added, fanning herself with her hand to cool down.
The rest of us joined in and we all agreed that we needed some free time. Just when more and more voices started to rise and people were collecting their stuff to leave, Eadlyn shouted in the megaphone again.
Seriously, I was just one second away of ripping that stupid thing out of her hands and throwing it in the ocean, hoping that some fish or dolphin or mermaid or whatever would drag it down to the bottom of the sea.
'Guys! Quiet!' she yelled.
At first all heads turned to face her, but then the chatter began again. It was no use. We all agreed on one thing in particular: no. more. practicing.
We wanted to relax and have some fun. It was a sunny day, which made practice extra tiring. The beach was amazing and we just wanted to be with our friends.
'How about we organize a party?' Caleb shouted, smiling.
Sammi and I exchanged a michievous smile. That sounded like music to our ears. And apperently, we weren't the only ones.
Our fellow students started to cheer excitingly. Some even grabbed their phones to text people about the party. Everybody seemed to be thrilled. Well, everyone, except for Eadlyn. She shook her head disapprovingly, trying one more time to get everybody's attention. When she realized that it was a lost cause, she sighed in defeat. She sat down in the sand, next to the ever bubbly Chelsea and joined the party-fuss.
'Yes yes yes, please, let's throw a party!' Sammi exclaimed.
Ethan wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer, resulting into Caleb glaring at him jealously, but Ethan didn't notice. I did, though, and the butterflies in my stomach started to flutter again.
