Chapter 11: Balloons and Candles (pt.2)

Calum's POV 

 When we finished the mini concert we quickly headed backstage to talk. Something feels wrong.

Michael was calling her once again, he starts to panic as every call he makes sends directly into voicemail. 

Hi this is Hailey . I'm busy right now. If its urgent please leave a message after the beep !

Michael: Come'on Hailey, dammit, pick up, pick up !

"Where the heck would she be?"

Ashton: Come'on guys. Let's go find her.

Luke: How about the party and everything else back here?

Michael: We'll think about that later after we know she's okay.

We were heading out the door but we stopped at the sight of police cars out the bar

Then we saw Marty talking to a police officer.

Michael quickly went to see what they're talking about.

Michael: What's happening here,Marty?

Luke: Officer, you're just on time we were kind of wondering if you could help finding our friend.

Marty continued talking to the police officer. He had this blank expression on his face.

Marty: I think you're gonna need to talk to them too. They're bandmates with the kid involved.

Ashton: are you talking about Hailey?

Michael: Is it Hailey? Is she okay? 

"Where is she?"

Luke: Hey guys, let him talk first.

My heart was suddenly beating fast. I hope he tells good news. please be good news 

Police Officer: you guys knew Hailey Meyers?

Michael: Yes, why Officer? What's the matter?

Police Officer: Your friend and her parents were involved in a car accident. We have asked some witnesses and heard that they were on their way to this place before the car brakes  broke causing them to hit the curve and went straight to the cliff.

"What? is she at the hospital right now? Is she okay?"

Police Officer: We were able to pull out the bodies from the front of the car which were her parents but the vehicle exploded  right before we checked the back seats.

Luke: Wait, are you kidding us? this is some sort of a prank, right? 

Police Officer: We are sorry for your loss.

It's not true. This is not real, am I right?

" Hailey !" 

i tried shouting her name outside to see if she's hiding somewhere planning to surprise us.

"Okay, Hailey . You can come out now, it's not funny anymore!" 

please let this be one of her pranks. 

" Hailey !" 

Nothing. I can't even hear her respond.

"Hail-" Ashton placed his hands on my shoulders as if to calm me down.

Ashton: Calum stop.. She's gone.

I fell down on my knees. i started sobbing like crazy . We were supposed to be happy right now. We were supposed to surprise her. She ended up surprising us.

Luke's POV  

I watched Michael as he tried to stop himself crying in front of us. He turned his back on us and he just bursted out crying. He was punching his fist against the wall. Calum stopped him because his knuckles were already bleeding. He pulled michael into a hug.

Michael: I was about to pick her up. I should've convinced her harder. Damn it! Damn it!

I couldn't stop myself as well. We've been through a lot. I covered my face with my hands as I sob quietly. I'd like to think we're able to find her at their house, saying she's lazy to come today.

We were all working hard together. I can't believe it. Why does it have to be her?

Ashton's POV  

i was trying to keep myself together since i'm the oldest of the boys. I need to be more calm at this moment, If I ever broke down, It wouldn't be in front of them to lighten their burden. They've been friends longer since I joined the band, I bet the pain they felt was double than mine.

I was driving them home and it was silent inside the car, as i dropped Calum and Michael, their eyes were all puffy and red since they didn't stop crying ever since we heard what happened.

Luke's house was a bit farther so we were the only ones left in the car. cars that were ahead of us were moving slowly so we decided to pull over for a while and check out what's happening.

Damn. It was the accident area.

My heart beated heavily as I saw a huge vehicle pull out the Meyers' car from the cliff. The car's been badly burned. We went closer hoping to see the slightest chance of life that's in there.

At the back seat, we saw popped balloons and some burnt cake scattered . it was a mess. 

I couldn't bear it anymore. She prepared for this day too. that's why she wouldn't let Michael pick her up.I guess she was planning on surprising us too.

Luke: Ashton ...

I looked at him as he patted my shoulder.

" She prepared a celebration , Luke."

Luke: i know, look I know you've been shocked too, Ashton. And it's no use keeping it all to yourself.

I sat there at the side of the road. i don't care if anybody sees me, I just sat there crying like crazy.

If not for her I'd still be filling in for somebody else's band. if not for her I wouldn't be in this band.

Michael's POV

 Mom was on our door way when Ashton had dropped me off. She hugged me tight.

Karen:  Honey, I heard what happened . I know it hurts. Just know that Dad and I are always here for you

"thanks mom."

She cupped my face noticing my eyes were all puffy from crying.

Karen: Do you want me to cook something for you?

" No mom, I'm fine. I just want to sleep right now."

Karen: You must be tired, go ahead Mikey.

She planted a kiss on my forehead. then I went to my room . 

I collapsed onto bed and turned on some music loud enough so my parents don't hear me sobbing again.

I dreamed that we would all make music together. She said she was  gonna make me sing  a lot of parts once she finishes the song she was making. 

She'll never be able to finish it.

She's gone. Our dreams won't happen anymore.

We're done for as a band.
