Chapter 28
*Sam’s POV*
I pace nervously outside the bathroom. I wait for Niall to change.
“I don’t understand why I have to dress if it’s just skyping with your parents,” he says from the other side of the door.
“Because I’m pretty sure they don’t want a commando Niall on Skype!” I attempt not to giggle.
“Well you seem to like it,” Niall mumbles just a little bit too loud and I playfully bump the door, earning giggles from Niall. He steps out and is dressed in a red polo and Chinos.
“It feels like a photo shoot,” he says, tugging at his collar.
“Well I heard that Liam was going out to Nando’s,” I say and before I can finish, Niall has scooped me up and carried me to the bed, setting me down.
“Down boy!” I giggle.
“Kisses first,” he grins and starts laying feather light kisses on all over my face. I try to squirm away from him, eventually pushing his face away.
“Don’t do that when my parents are calling!” I fix my hair and grin at Niall’s pout. “Love you too bud!” I look at my laptop, and to my horror, find my parents on the screen.
“Hi!” Niall chirps, trying to end the awkward silence.
*Later*
The Skype session went better than expected, except for the awkward beginning. I guess I really didn’t have to worry about Niall and my dad. Except when my mom leaves, going to check on Autumn, is when Niall starts to get anxious. He casually puts a hand on my thigh. I quickly tap out a message on my phone and hit send.
To: My teddy bear <3
Not now. Later. My dad is still here.
A few seconds later, I get a reply.
To: Babe <3 <3 <3
C’mon as long as he doesn’t see it… xx
Casually as I can, while answering a question from my dad about school, brush Niall’s massive hand from me. My phone buzzes.
From: My teddy bear <3
Maybe if you sit on my hand… ;)
I start to text a reply
To: My teddy bear <3
How about no :)
“So how is the school?” My dad asks and I put my phone away.
“It’s good dad I told you,” I grin.
“Not for you. Niall.” My dad says.
“He knows my name!” Niall shouts triumphantly. I poke him in the sides, asking him to answer. “Oh right!” I try not to smack my forehead. “I finished high school finally,” Niall says, leaving out the part how he couldn’t get out of bed, literally, the day of the graduation. “And I’m working on my driver’s license. I should be getting it in a month or two. Because I’m that great at driving!” Niall beams.
“Yeah and Zayn is the vain,” I tease and smack his chest lightly.
“Well I guess I won’t drive you then,” Niall turns away and smiles triumphantly, even though I know he’s kidding.
“Well I guess Harry will have to drive me,” I shrug.
“NO JIMMY PROTESTED!” Lou shouts from downstairs.
“He’s not bad on the eyes either-” I say but Niall cuts me off.
“NO!” Niall screams and tackles me playfully. Normally, I would have went along with it but I remembered my dad was on the laptop screen two feet away. I flip him over and press an elbow to his chest, holding him.
“Dad I gotta go,” I say but my dad is already chuckling.
“’course, I’ll see you later,” he pauses. “I just need to talk to Niall.”
*Niall’s POV*
“Um ok,” Sam tries to leave as casually as she can. “I guess I’ll be downstairs.” Great. Now her dad is going to yell at me for tackling her. Great job Niall. Just great.
As soon as the door closes, Sam’s dad starts.
“I’m guessing you love her don’t you?”
“Yes sir,” I nod frantically. “I love her very much.” I gaze at the door before adding, “And I hope she knows.”
“The way you looked at you, it was the way I look at her mom,” He says. The countless perfect memories of us. Dancing, eating, being happy. “Niall, I’m just going to say that those magazines and TV shows don’t portray you as you really are.”
“Sam says you can’t define the real me in a half hour show,” I shrug.
“I had different thoughts about you but I realize, and this doesn’t happen often, but I was wrong,” Her dad chuckles. My heart feels like it’s going to leap out of my chest. “I’m trying to say that you’re the perfect match for her.” My heart skips a beat and I fights the urge to scream out the window for the world to hear, “SAM IS MINE! ALL MINE!”
“Thank you sir,” I say.
“And I’m guessing you can match her appetite?”
“I can come close, but nothing can match her stomach,” I grin. “It’s been lovely meeting you.”
“Same to you. Well I better go. Dinner should be done soon,” her dad says.
“I hope to see you soon,” I say as I scroll over to log off.
“Niall?”
“Yes sir?”
“Call me Will.”
