Before I could get up, a short brunette skipped in.

"Hi!!" She squealed, "I'm Marlene Edwards! Call me Marlee, please!"

"Oh hi," I said, "I thought you were coming on Thursday."

"I was going to," she replied, "but my dad's schedule opened up, and here I am!"

"Cool!" I responded.

We spent the next five hours setting up the room, chattering about our horses while we worked. I found out that she has a bay Thoroughbred, named Holly. She was 16 hands high and from what I could tell from pictures, gorgeous. Marlee specializes in show jumping, so she wouldn't be major competition to me. I specialize in dressage, but I still like to jump occasionally. She told me all about each level of riding, from Beginner to Intermediate, then you advance to Advanced then hopefully the YENT (Youth Equestrian National Team). She had started last year in 7th grade on the Beginner team. She was now on the Intermediate. She told me about how much drama there was last year on the teams between Sasha Silver (Charm's owner) and Heather Fox (Aristocrat's owner). I made a mental note to just stick to myself and Marlee.

She told me all about kids in our grade and their relationships. I knew to stay away from Eric and Jacob because they are in complicated relationships. We chatted and watched television, and before I knew it, it was 6:30. The cafeteria opened for dinner at 5, so we headed down and I stared in awe at all the choices. I loaded down my plate with chicken, green beans, and a baked potato. For dessert, I chose a coconut creme pie tart.

We headed back to the dorm, and I decided to go riding. I changed into black breeches, a violet tee, and my tall riding boots. Marlee was tired and didn't come, so I walked solitarily to the barn. I tacked Hermes up and lead him to the indoor arena. I mounted him and took him at a walk around the arena. Smiling, I sped him up and started to work.

An hour later, I dismounted, sweaty and tired. Hermes took deep breaths and huffed at me, ready to go to sleep. I quickly cooled him out and untacked him. I put him in his stall and walked back to the dorms. I opened the door, to find Marlee asleep. I crept quietly to the shower and scrubbed the day off. I emerged, exhausted, and flopped into bed. I drifted away, my head full of thoughts of Canterwood Crest.
