“What happened here?” I gasp looking out the window.
“Well, spouted the old lady” it all started after you disappeared. You were searched for high and low for six months. Lumbridge was almost invaded in the desperate search for the “Duel Blade King” (the name bestowed on me due to my dueled swords of which I have retired one after the war). “With no one on the throne and your son too young to rule lord Ragen took the throne and became a tyrant. He moved the capitol to his city, Ardougne, and gathered together his Black Knights and destroyed everything to intimidate the townspeople from rebellion, and to eliminate Christianity. He and his followers still hold true to pagan gods and see Christ’s movement as a threat. This has gone for the last twenty four years!
The people Gielinor are banding together. Small pockets of resistant’s are doing their best to hold strong in the belief that God will deliver us from this pagan. A rather large patch has taken the old capitol Varock just north of here under Captain Lee, one of the top rebels. They are using it as a recruitment base and a safe haven for refugees. Go there and try to meet him. I doubt he will believe who you are but I’m sure if you show him that sword he might. War is brewing, and I believe God has sent you back to us to lead the rebellion. I have a horse out back, old but fast stallion he is. I’m surprised the Black Guard hasn’t stolen him already! They will, mark my words the day they need him. Go fetch him, bridle him, my apologies, I have no saddle. And make haste for Varock and do NOT get caught. They will whip you on sight and there’s no telling how you’ll be treated with that sword and a stolen horse in your possession." As she said this she gave me a sly wink
"Go King Vain, Make haste to Varock! I mount the steed and with little to no protest he starts walking, then galloping, then running toward the golden city. It’s been a long time since I rode bareback. I can already feel the bone in my rear begin to hurt. I know I’ll be sore tomorrow. With some protest I push the horse as hard as I can. Varock isn’t very far from Lumbridge at all, but far enough to take a couple hours’ worth of walking depending on the speed. Only about a thirty minutes ride. The entire landscape is changed. Craters litter the path and the grass is burned as if this were some great battlefield long ago. And i may be imagining it but it seems like the faint stench of death still lurks in the area. I finally see the silver walls and my heart begins to sadden. Parts of the wall of this once great city, center of commerce in Gielinor, have been knocked down and destroyed. Although most remains, it dismays my heart to see it like this. There are guards at the gate, strong looking guards. They don’t bare classic armor but strong looking leathers.
I ride the steed away toward the west end of the wall were there seems to be a small hole about the size of a man. I tie the horse down and climb to that section of the wall and begin to crawl through. What i see next dismays me even further. Much of the city has been destroyed, including most of the castle gates. I can’t tell much from here but it even appears the Grand Exchange, center of Gielinor commerce and marketplace, has been utterly destroyed. I crawl off the wall and begin walking towards the Castle. I duck behind a building as a small battalion of young rebels jog by crying war chants and preparing for a distant battle. Then a commander spots me.
"Soldier, what are you doing?! Trying to skip out on your training?! I’ve a mind to have you hanged right now! Leave and go to the top of the castle! See Captain Lee and explain your actions. If he doesn’t have you whipped, I will!"
And with that he marches off. 'Well,” I think to myself,” at least I know where Lee is. I briskly walk toward the castle, quickly but slow enough to not draw more attention. I enter in through one of the large holes were the door used to be, and see a door off to the side with a sign. *King Danny Vain, May he rest in peace* I imagine its some sort of shrine and wonder if maybe my Bow, daggers and other sword are there, but as I begin to reach for the handle I hear a loud voice
“Get up here now," motioning towards the roof. "If I can’t get out of training I won’t let you either!"
I ascend the stairs and reach the roof to see around 100 rebels standing at attention and in front pacing and yelling Captain Lee. I walk briskly up to him and begin to speak when a sharp back hand lands across my cheek. My anger blazing, I begin to draw my sword but once again remember my place.
He yells in my face, "WHAT IN GIELINOR GIVES YOU THE THOUGHT YOU CAN APROACH ME LIKE THAT! You brats need to learn discipline! I’ll have the next one whipped!" I draw my sword but place the handle toward the Captain with the blade in my hand. The next moment everything happens in a blur. His eyes widen and he looks at me. The next thing I hear is someone screaming. 'IRONCLAD' and then the rocks begin to fall. A massive piece of earth fresh from a catapult screams to the top of the castle and crushes several soldiers with a sickening crash. I grab my sword and by the time the next rock hits the face of the castle I’m running down the stairs with Lee right behind me. I spot the door with my name on it on with my momentum carrying me I kick it open. Sure enough there’s a small shrine and behind it a large set of drawers. I rush over there and open each one. I find my other steel bladed sword and its duel sheath that is placed on back to hold both swords. I grab my bow and quiver of arrows. I also spot two round dagger sheaths that fit five throwing knives on each one.
I grab everything and I as I turn I see Captain Lee in the doorway. “Danny Vain,” he says, “if that’s you I want you to gather every rebel you can and move to the Elvin villages on the other side of the underground pass. Go now! The Ironclad won’t move through the pass because they haven’t discovered the secret passage into the side of the cave. Stop in Falador, they will grant you refuge and you can gather the Temple Knig—.“
With that a massive rock slams into the building killing him and opening a gaping hole in the wall. I bound out on the west end of the castle and look to the east and see what looks to be hundreds of black plated soldiers marching through the east gate. I bound back to the wall and scale it as fast as I can. I slip off multiple times due to the blood all over my hands and arms. I finally make it and get through the hole and land on my feet. I untie the strangely calm horse and mount him. I kick his hip and off we go. I hear the screams and clashes of metal and the city burning for what looks to be the last time. The last rebel strong hold this far east appears has fallen. With solemn feelings i set a course to Falador!
