We had finished eating, Charlotte had decided to go to Oxford. I was happy for her but sad at the same time because I wouldn't see her for four years. Anyways, the food was delicious as always and we were now going to go to her families house for a few hours.
When we arrived at her mothers house there wasn't anyone home yet. So we sat on the bench on the porch and waited. The neighborhood was quiet and no one was out. I held Charlotte's hand and we just sat and enjoyed each others company. This was one of the reasons I loved her. We could just sit together and we didn't have to say a word, we just liked being around each other. It was perfect. Her family pulled into the driveway. After seeing them for a few hours Charlotte and I headed to the University Mall in Provo to get stuff we would need for the coming school year.
It was now almost 5:30 and I drove back to my apartment to grab the dinner I had made for us to eat on top of the mountain. Then we drove up it. The sky was just starting to turn orange as we got out and I laid down the blanket on the ground. Charlotte sat down, and I put the Hot-Cold bag down next to her and pulled out two hamburgers and a large bowl of french fries, Charlotte loved french fries, and handed her one of the Burgers, then I sat down next to her and balanced the bowl between her right leg and my left one. She smiled at the bowl of French Fries, “How'd you know I loved french Fries and Burgers?” She asked. “Because you've told me at least 500 times.” I said smiling. We both laughed and she took a bite of her burger. “This is really really good!” She exclaimed, taking another bite. I too took a bite, I have to admit, I was skeptical since I had made them myself but...It was actually pretty good. “Now my breath is going to smell like hamburger though.” She said, smiling a bit. “Mine is too so...maybe there are enough fries to cancel it out...” I replied and to that we both laughed.
We were quiet for a bit. We finished our burgers and began munching on fries. “The sunset is so beautiful.” She finally said. “It's even more beautiful with you here.” I said. She smiled at me and leaned her head on my shoulder. “Thank you.” She replied. “It's true.” I said back. She just smiled. I put my arm over her and we watched the sunset. The sky was a purple and orange and it really was beautiful. With my other hand I slipped the the little box out of my pocket.
“Charlotte?”
“Yes?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“And I'll always be here for you. And I'll wait for you to get back from Oxford.”
“Thank you. I'll come back. I promise.”
“And...I want you to be mine forever.”
She looked up at me and I held the box in front of me, between us, and slid the ribbon off, opening it. “Will you marry me Charlotte?”
“Yes.”
