“Hey Tim, how are you doing?” Evan asked recovering from his shock,
“I though Grams was coming, where is she?” he questioned the Tim guy, who I was staring unabashedly. I mean how could I not the guy wore a black suit in the middle of the afternoon in June! And he had those weird hat on that the chauffeurs in movies wore.
“Mr. Chambers she is here but she was tired from chasing after Miss Lilly so she sent me here instead. She is waiting in the car right now and would like you to go and meet her there” Tim said in a formal tone while Evan made a face at him. What was up with him, Tim looked old enough to be his grandfather and he was making a face at him. I felt me face turn into a frown in return.
“Tim I told you to call me Evan please don’t call me Mr. Chambers I feel like my Dad” he told him
“I would but …” he glanced at me before continuing and I understood he didn’t know me and didn’t trust me enough I knew I had to do something. The glance that Tim gave me made me unsettled like he was afraid of what I would do if he did call Evan by his name so I spoke
“its fine, you don’t have to worry about me telling anyone. In fact I would prefer it if you call Evan by his name he has a big enough head already he doesn’t need people making it even more bigger and besides you’re older than him you can talk to him anyway you want ”
He shoulders relaxed and sagged down I hadn’t even noticed how tense he was and I felt glad that I had spoken, I heard giggling and I looked at Alice sure enough she was laughing while Evan had his face scrunched up.
“What you don’t think you have a big head?” I asked him
“No”
“Well Alice and I seemed to disagree. Don’t we Alice?” I said looking down at her
“Yeah you do big bro” she said laughter pouring out of her now
“Oh I have a big head, let’s see who has a big head” he narrowed his eyes as he launched himself at Alice. She shrieked and tried to scramble away from my lap but Evan was too fast and was over both of us in a second, he grabbed Alice by her waist and began tickling her; while I was caught in the crossfire taking the weight of both of them and brunt of Alice’s kicking. Still I couldn’t help but smile at the sound of Alice’s laughter it reminded me of Jamie and how we used to spend time together before everything changed.
“Okay okay I think this is enough, Evan your friend is going to be crushed with you two. Time you get up now.” Tim said as he pulled Evan off of us.
I pushed myself and groaned I was definitely going to be sore tomorrow my back was killing me.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to hurt you” Alice said in a worried voice
“Oh no it’s fine don’t worry honey. I had fun but good job though” I told her giving her a conspiratorial glance she smiled at that. At first she looked confused but then she smiled.
“I like you a lot I’m glad my brother choose you as his girlfriend”
“Yeah me too” I replied and it was the truth for now. I held her hand and we walked towards Evan and Tim who were talking a little further away from us far enough that we could see them but couldn’t hear them. They way they stole glances towards me as we reached them gave away the topic of their conversation. By the time we reached them they had finished talking.
“It is a pleasure to meet you Miss Mia” Tim said bowing his head a little with a twinkle in his eyes
“I see Evan has taken to himself to introduce me and Tim only Mia”
