Chapter2
It was almost quarter to nine when I made my way to the auto body shop I know it was weird that I was called in late at night for a car emergency?? But trust me unless you’ve worked there you’ll never know and especially if the customers are snobby , rich , spoiled teenagers who want their cars fixed before they head off to another drinking feast. So I made my way up the sidewalk to work I could have used my car but what’s the use of burning all the petrol when you could go for a nights stroll and besides I loved the night basically I am a night person . I love the bliss atmosphere the night gives the peace , the quiet and not to mention the beautiful starry night sky I just loved it all.
As I entered the shop there was something weird going on , no one was there , well sure no one was supposed to be there at this hour working but Trent Miller my boss was always nearby he was a 47 year old balding guy with a short height of 5’7 but for his age he was quiet toned . with no belly hanging over his pants or anything and he was a really sweet guy and was like a fatherly figure to me which I desperately needed .
My love of cars had brought me here but Trent was the one who was the reason that I stayed .After my parents death I was a wreck but he helped me through that time and for that I owe him my loyalty at least. I am a huge believer in returning favours I don’t like it when I owe people cause I hate to give anyone power over me only my parents had that and I’m going to keep it that way. So that was partly the reason I was here I would never leave Trent in distress.
Making my way to the employees lounge at the back I heard shouting my memory might be bad but my hearing makes up for it . Its really sharp and something that really helps me out sometimes, the voices kept getting louder as I made my way to the door and I recognised them .It was Trent and his wife , they were arguing over her cheating…. I gasped, Trent and his wife Olivia were the perfect couple for the last eight months I worked here there was never a time that they were without one another and if they were separated they would make such a huge deal of it. I was amazed by the love they had for each other but I guess everything good has to end sometime right…..
I stood there in shock as they continued yelling Olivia was begging him for forgiveness while Trent just kept asking ‘why she did it? Was he not a good enough husband? Was there someone else she loved now ?’ I know how it must have hurt to him asking all those things, he used to be so proud of their love and marriage but not what will happen surely he can’t close the shop, I’ll loose my job! Its not that I don’t have other jobs .. I do many many more but this is the only place where I have a sense of belonging, where I know I can trust to be there when I need something and above all here is where Trent my support is . I was too engulfed in my thoughts that I didn’t see the door open and now I stood face to face with him. His usually cheerful face now a mask of sadness, his eyes filled with grief and sorrow and his cheery smile in a tight line.
The sight altogether was heartbreaking , I could help but grieve with him Trent was a father to me so couldn’t help but move and pull him in a hug.
“Everything is going to fine” I reassured him but I knew deep down it will never be, he did too because he chuckled dryly
“So you heard all that didn’t you ….. well you know I should have adopted you when I had the chance so that I wouldn’t be all alone when she left ” he said pulling back,
“Trent you know that you’re a second father to me so I will always be here when you need me ”
And that was the truth I slowly grabbed him hand and squeezed it to make it more clear
“yes dear I do know that but for now I think I’m going to leave town for a while , would you take care of the shop for me seeing as you’re the only one left that I trust” he replied sadly
