Dreama helped Volf off her exam table and out to the car again. He rested his head back against the head rest with his eyes closed breathing shallowly so as to not move his ribs too much. Dreama put her hand on top of his handpaw to help comfort him, he turned his head and smiled at her softly. "Thank you Dreama for staying beside me even when I am stubborn and don't listen to your wisdom." Dreama glanced over at him and smiled to him. "There is no thanks needed, helping eachother is what couples do for one another. Though I have a feeling if I suggest you stay home you will do that next time if there is a next time."
He winced some with his eyes closed again. "I am sure there will be injuries again, but hopefully not too often." She nodded and then pulled into a parking spot at the hospital. She walked over to his side of the car, she helped him to the doors where there were wheel chairs where she made him sit down. Dreama went over to the admissions desk and gave the nurse all the information. The nurse nodded and told Dreama that the surgen had seen the xrays and wanted to get Volf up into surgery that night to ensure that his lung would not get punctured. "Alright then let's get him to where he needs to be so he can be preped for surgery."
Dreama touched his shoulder gently and he looked up at her with pain in his eyes. "Volf you are going to have surgery tonight, so you are probably going to sleep the rest of the night once they have you out for the surgery." He nodded and wrapped his arm around his ribs with a groan. "That's good Dreama I don't know how much more of this I can handle, I didn't know that broken ribs would be this painful."
Dreama saw him wince in such pain and wished she could take it away. She pushed him following the nurse to his room to get him ready for the surgery. Dreama helped him to move from the wheelchair and onto the bed and he groaned feeling the movement in his ribs. "Easy Volf this will be over here soon." He nodded "I know love thank you." Dreama leaned down and kissed him softly on the tip of his muzzle, then held his hand as the nurse put the iv in his handpaw and got all the medication started for him. The nurse asked the routine questions and told him what to expect with the surgery.
Volf nodded and laid his head back against the pillow and kept his handpaw in Dreama's hand. She was able to be with him in the preop, but once the operating room was ready the nurse and doctor took him abck into the operating room and Dreama was taken to the waiting room.
Dreama sat in the waiting room for about 3 hours before the doctor came to tell her about how the surgery went for Volf. The surgen was pleased with how the surgery went and told Dreama that he would be in the hospital probably that night and then the next night. She nodded and spoke to the doctor about how long he would need to rest.
The doctor had told Dreama that he would need to take it easy for at least 2 weeks to ensure that the fusing took and that he would have a follow up appointment in a week to see how the fusing is doing and then at the 2 week mark they would have an appointment to see if he is able to be released to do everyday activities. Dreama nodded and told him she would call in the morning and set up the two appointments, after that Dreama was able to go back to Volf's room where he was resting and looked to be asleep.
Dreama walked over to the bed after setting her purse on the couch that was in the room, she sat beside the bed and touched his handpaw softly. When she did that she saw his eyes open and look up at her. "How are you feeling Volf?" He looked to her and smiled tiredly "Very tired and ready to go home." She smoothed his hair from his face and smiled softly and kissed the side of his muzzle. "Well you won't be going home until the morning after next and go to sleep dear you will be tired after the medicine they gave you during surgery." He nodded and yawned some. "Okay are you going home?"
Dreama shook her head "No I am staying here with you Volf. " He frowned some and looked at her "Dreama you don't have to stay and sleep in that chair. Go home and sleep in our bed. You should be comfortable." Dreama smiled softly and shook her head "No I am going to stay here with you I will be alright in the chair." Volf shook his head but the exhaustion took its hold and he fell asleep.
Dreama smiled and saw him fall asleep knowing that he would talk to her in the morning about her sleeping in the chair. She walked over to the bathroom and used one of the towels to wash her face. She also texted Trooper to tell him that all went well with Volf's surgery and that he could stop by in the afternoon since it was almost 5 am now and she knew Volf would probably sleep several hours after having surgery.
Dreama sat down and put her hand on his handpaw and reclined the chair and rested her head back against the headrest and fell asleep, she curled on her side in the chair facing Volf and that was how she slept until she felt Volf's hand tighten around hers. She looked up and saw Volf's face and he was breathing deeply and had a wince eched on his face. She got out of the bed and moved closer to him. 'Volf what's wrong where are you hurting at?"
He opened his eyes and looked up at her and groaned his handpaw lifting from his incision to show stiches popped. "I moved and they came undone." Dreama looked at his face and touched his face gently. "I am going to get the nurse for you alright. We will get that taken care of and some more pain meds." He nodded and closed his eyes again as she went to the nurse's station.
The nurse came right in with Dreama and gave Volf some pain meds and then moved his handpaw slowly and began to take off the bandages gently and slowly. Dreama was on the other side holding his other handpaw. The nurse found that one stich came undone, and she told them that they would leave it alone because the other stiches should hold as long as he doesn't try to do too much. They would have physical therapy in later in the morning to show him how to move about until he's healed.
Volf nodded his head and thanked the nurse and Dreama nodded and thanked her as well. Dreama saw Volf relax as the pain meds kicked into his system. "Trooper said he would be by this afternoon sometime to check up on you." Volf looked over at her and tilted his head some, "When did you talk to him?" "Well he texted me to ask what time would be good to come by today and I told him that you needed surgery for your ribs and he said he would come by the hospital this afternoon to see how you were doing."
Volf sighed and nodded his head. As the pain meds kicked in he fell back to sleep Dreama knew he would be tired because of the trama his body has been through. She moved to go wash her face and use the hairbrush the nurse brought for her to use. Dreama smiled when she saw the physical therapy person come into the room, she walked over to the bed and gently touched Volf's shoulder. "Wake up dear physical therapy is here to help you to learn how to move with your ribs they way they are right now." He groaned and nodded his head some, once he was awake the physical therapist helped him to move and showed him the least painful way to move.
In the afternoon after a meal that was served by the hospital Volf looked at Dreama. "Love can I ask you to go get me something different and not from here this just doesn' t smell good to me at all." Dreama nodded and smiled "Yes I will go get you something to eat and I will tell the nurse I am doing that for you." Dreama kissed his cheek softly, and as she was about to leave Trooper came into the room and gave her a kiss on the check and went to talk with his brother. She smiled and shook her head hearing the brotherly bickering.
She was back in an hour and a half, she had stopped by the house and gotten a shower and fresh clothes and got some clothes for Volf when he could go home. When she got back to the hospital she found that Volf and Trooper were talking about something, and it made her suspicious when she walked into the room they stopped talking. "I take it you guys didn't kill eachother." She brought food for both Trooper and Volf and set the bags on the table that was over the bed. "How about you both eat now and Volf the nurse told me that the doctor will be in soon to talk to us about when they think that you can go home."
Volf smiled and nodded his head. "Maybe they will let me go home sooner rather than later." Dreama laughed softly "We will see Volf just don't push it alright , even if you do get to go home you will have to take it easy and no going out and exploring the city."
