CHAPTER THREE
Araneus looked down at me smugly. "You see? I wasn't lying, was I?"
"Hmm. Well, it COULD have been an elaborate trick, you know. Technology is amazing these days, isn't it?"
He scowled. Well, I'm SORRY, but would he believe it, given these circumstances? Well, probably. He was rather obviously a nutter. Hopefully he wasn't dangerous, but one could never be too careful, of course.
"Fine, then. Refuse to believe me. You'll see, I shall find someway to prove this all..." He glanced around the alley.
I smirked. There was no way he would get me to believe him.
***A While Later***
Alright, forget I said that. This was truly Diagon Alley.
I had seen things I'd only dreamed about-and read about, of course. It was amazing... Just as J. K. Rowling had described it.
I was grinning from ear to ear. This. Was. Brilliant! I can't believe all the stuff in Harry Potter really exists! Maybe I'll even MEET some of the characters-er, people!
"Now do you believe me?" Araneus asked.
"Definitely," I replied. "But you have to admit, it's not really that surprising it took me so long to. It's not the sort of thing that happens to everyone."
"No," he admitted. "Do you think your mum will believe it?"
"Oh, I can convince her." I walked over to a broom shop, and almost banged into a black girl standing in front of it, with red-streaked jet-black hair, punk-style clothing, holding a book. She looked about my age.
"Oh, sorry!" I said.
"Don't worry. It was probably my fault; I'm dreadfully clumsy," she replied, grinning. She had eyes that were as black as her hair.
"I like your hair," I said, smiling back. "By the way, my names's Iris. What's yours?"
"Nova," she replied.
"Nova?" I said. "That's a nice name! Is it short for something? I've never heard it before."
"Yes, it is," she said. She didn't say what for, though, and so I didn't ask.
"So, you're shopping for Hogwarts supplies?" She asked. I nodded.
"Isn't it strange," I said, "that Hogwarts really exists? I mean, how did J. K. Rowling know?"
"Well, she went to Hogwarts. She's a muggle-born, and she's met all her characters from the books. She thought it would be a great idea for a book, so she wrote it. My parents are wizards," she added. "Joanne's a family friend."
"Oh."
Araneus walked over. "Made a friend, have you?"
I nodded. Nova wasn't really a friend, precisely, but we were friendly, and that's what counts, I suppose.
"Hello, Uncle," Nova said to Araneus.
"Nova! I hadn't recognized you. Your...er, style has changed a bit since I last visited." He took in her ripped clothing.
