Chapter 18

Storm, Kevin, and I are tired. Our feet hurt, and we have headaches due to the Blood Moon pack trying to reach us. We kept running, though. Storm howled in pain. I echo it back for it to travel. Now, we are in no man's land. Sitting and resting. "What is our next move?" Storm pushes out, kneeling on his back to look at the night sky. Kevin also looks at me. Honestly, I can't answer that question for myself. Tears fell from my face, making him sit back up and wrap around me. I pull myself together. " We need a house," I break through. We have no idea how far we are from Jake and Jason, but our wolf feels it. Tegan doesn't want to go back. She kept telling me this was the right thing to do.

We went to the store and started to draw up some plans. "We don't have money, Storm. This was stupid," I say, defeated. I hear Storm chuckle at me and Kevin pating me on the back. "Alpha, our pack will build. It will not always be us. We need a house for now, Not a packed house," He tells me, calming my mind down. Not all alphas have money. It takes a pack to make a pack house.

So with that- Storm, Kevin, and I began to build our new lives away from everyone. I am slowly adding things. About two months went by, and Jake finally reached me. I told him I needed time, and he said okay. Through the phone call, he sounded heartbroken. I am hurt he wouldn't listen to me, but now that I am gone, he cares. I was lost in my thoughts while placing bowls in a cabinet. Storm walks in. "Alpha, this is Kayla,"

I smile at her. She looks tired and ready to cry. I grab her hand, and the fuzzy feeling takes over, making her relax. "You are home now, Kayla; welcome to my three-person pack," I tell her, making us all laugh. "What is our pack call?" Kayla calls out. Looking doubtful, I didn't think of that. Neither did Storm with the look on his face. "Silver Heart," I mutter. They both tested it well. "Alpha of the Silver Heart pack," Storm says, making me smile. Now for the paperwork part. I groan and head to my office. The community has to know about an upcoming wolf pack. So I sit down, write out trades for the council members, and send it in. I would like to claim this land as mine.

The three pack members start to train with each other. The days are getting longer due to summer approaching. I am growing more vital due to taking on the alpha role. I miss Jake terribly at this point. I know Storm feels it, too. So, as they fight, I step away. I pull out my phone and hover over the name. Click it.

"Where the hell are you!" He shouts at me, causing me to laugh. "Hi, Jason. You are not near Jake, are you?" I question before I continue. He mumbles no, so I start again. "I want to tell you everything but in person. Storm doesn't know I am doing this. Meet me at the East end of the pack, boarded on the outside of Blood Moon. I will come get you," I hang up on him before he can get anything out. Sending the council members a memo on new lands, I had to mark out my land. Jake even talked about how no man lands around him. It is an excellent six-hour run.

I let the three of them know I would return tomorrow and head off to get Jason. Running around, I mark rocks or fallen trees to keep track of time. I come to a stopping point when I see Jason outside of the pack borders. I shift back to human, catching his attention. Tears fall from my eyes as I get closer. Without thinking, he pulls me into a hug and causes me to fall into him. I am so close to Jake that I could run to him now.

"You feel stronger, Ruth," He comments, pulling away from me. I chuckle, "I am an alpha, Jason," and tell him the news. Everything clicks in his brain; His mouth drops open. "The- the luna cer," He stumbles out. "Yes, that's why we left. Storm is my beta," I say to him, pulling his arm and making him walk to my land.

As we walked, I told him how I found out I was an alpha on the pack run. Or why do I need Storm on that one day Jake and him were training. I told him I tried telling Jake, but he never listened. I couldn't take the Luna title. I could die, taking on another title other than alpha. So I ran. "Ruth, we could have helped you," Jason says. "You don't get it. I didn't want help. Storm knew that. That night, our eyes met on that stage. We had a game plan. We needed to get away. Since we left, have there been any attacks?" I ask, proving my point. He shakes his head, not causing me to smile. My smell is gone from the Blood Moon pack lands. So, by chance, Waylen knew I was an alpha. Or is he genuinely crazy? Either way, the Blood Moon pack is safe for now.

"Everyone is worried about the three of you," Jason explains. Guilty. I know I am guilty. "I miss him," I finally say out loud. Jason throws his arm over my shoulder, pulling me closer, "I miss you too little one,"

We shift into our wolves for the rest of the way. We made it to the small cabin with three rooms. I go in first. My three pack members are sitting having chocolate milk in the small kitchen. "I am back," I announced, breaking the small talk. "Welcome back, alpha. We have gained another member. He is in the shower," Storm tells me, sipping his drink. I smile, knowing the fact that the word is getting around. " I also picked someone up on my way back in," I tell him, giving Jason the sign to come in.

Jason rounds the corner and locks eyes with Storm. Storm does a double take, causing me to laugh. Storm gets out of his seat and runs to hug Jason. I smile, bittersweet at their reunion. Storm hugged me and thanked me over and over again. I here a door creek open and a well-built man walks from the shower room. He was rubbing his long hair dry. "Hello, alpha, my name is Brock," Broke informs me, taking my hand in his. He seems like the quiet type. "Welcome to the Silver Heart pack, Brock," I say kindly to him. He bows and walks over to the kitchen.

"How did you get away from alpha Jake?" Storm questions his mate. "I just told him I need a break from life. I told him I was going for a run, but I think he knew, so he said to tell all of you hi if we cross paths," Jason laughs. Everyone makes it to the living room and gathers on the couch. Who would have thought I would have pack members calling me alpha in two months? I would have never pictured my life like this. I thought I would have been trapped forever till I killed myself.
