Chapter 19
Losing time was just the thing I needed. Before I knew it, more people had shown up and claimed me as their alpha. Packs that border my lands have come and marked an alliance with me. By now, I have figured Jake knows about the new alpha building a pack close to his. Walking along and watching my pack training is a sight to behold. They have started working as one. I was becoming more assertive. I have become more robust. Tegan cries out now for Jake, telling me it is time to go back. It has been five months. Yet, I like where we are. Two alphas can't rule together, so either way, one of us will be giving up our titles.
"Hey, alpha. I just got news of the Blood Moon pack wanting to meet with you," Brock throws at me. Jake. I nod, and he raises his right hand and salutes me. I chuckle at his actions. Jake will be coming to my land. We talk, but never in person. I smile at the thought of hugging him. I walk away from the training grounds and go to the house.. No action of Waylen knowing anything. Which is weird, considering he knew my smell when I shifted. I have turned more, but nothing has come of it.
As I sit in my office, the sun slowly sets, and I get the alert someone has passed on my borders. Instantly pulling up the cameras in that location, I see Brock and Kayla greeting Jake and Jason. My heart skips when Jake makes eye contact with the camera. He points and laughs, causing Brock's shoulders to drop. I know my cameras are showing, but that is the point. Shutting the video down, I get up and push my chair in. I walk down the hallway past the kitchen with a few members in it cooking. Bowing slightly to me when they see me. I smile at them and make my way out of the front door.
Clearing the tree line, Brock, Kayla, Jake, and Jason meet my eyes, yet I only see one pair. He stops in his tracks, looking over at Jason. Also coming out of the woods is Storm. He wraps his arms around his mate, causing Jake to remember me on the steps. Brock pats Jake on the shoulder, pushing him forward a little. The shock finally leaves him as he walks up to me. I meet him halfway, wrap my arms around his tall figure, and bring him to me. " I have missed you, little one," Jake hums out. I cry due to the nickname coming out of his mouth.
I pull away from him. He places both hands on my face, wiping away my tears. "Welcome to the Silver Heart pack," I announced to him. He looked around and came back to me. "You are an alpha?" Jake throws it at me. I nod, causing him to ask the following question. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I tried. Every time I tried to talk to you- you brushed me off. When the Luna ceremony came around, I knew I didn't belong as Luna," I reminded him. He is lost in thought, probably thinking back to when I tried to tell him. "How long have you known?"
"Since the pack run," I sheeply say. A small sigh comes from his mouth, but that doesn't stop him from pulling me into another hug. He places his chin on my head. "Are you going to explain everything to me?" Jake speaks. I nod, pulling away and grabbing his hand to lead him into the pack house, causing the small group of people to follow.
Walking in, Jake's eyes wander over the cozy house. "I don't have a big pack yet, but this is us," I announce proudly. Everyone in the house smiles at us and bows. Jake smiles at that. "Storm, follow Jake and Jason to the office with me, please," I give slight commands. We all start to walk to the office. Making our way in, we all find chairs to sit on. "Storm is my beta. I knew He was special to me when I shook his hand in your office. I didn't know why at that time," I started. Jake looks doubtful. Connecting on the dots. "Did you come here when you left for a few days?" Jake asks Jason. "I did," Jason replies. Jake looks hurt. "You told Jason, but not your mate?" Jake barks at me.
"I tried to tell you! You have no idea how hard it has been for me. I am learning how to lead!" I jumped back.
He chuckles, making the room stiff. "Out of all people, I know how it feels. I had to rebuild my dad's pack, Ruth," Jake grits out. I take a deep breath in. "You can not get mad at me for this. I tried to get you to help me, but you kept brushing me off. So I left!"
"That is not an excuse. I am your mate. You left me!" He cries out. I shake my head. "You do not get to pull the mate card on me! I had it figured out. Like always, I did it alone," I scream at him. Jason and Storm sink further into the couch. Jake stands up. I stand, matching his stance. "You have me," He grinds his teeth. I lick my lips and curl them in. "No, Jake, you were not there for me,"
He puts his chest against mine, trying to imitate me. "You can not leave and expect me not to be upset when the truth comes out," He mocks me. "Here is the difference. You have a family. You have a somewhat easy life. This isn't a pissing match to whose life is worse. I thought I had you. I tried to tell you. I don't remember you giving me time. I was excited to see it, and it was important to me. I had to learn to be an alpha. You grew up with one," I breathe out. He backed away from me and sat on the couch. "You do not get to be a bully to me, Jake,"
"I am not being a bully," He says with an attitude. I roll my eyes. "You didn't have to leave," Jake tells me.
"I had to. I needed to learn," What doesn't he get? I needed to leave. I only know slave life and Jake. Never me. It was never for me. Jake nods and tells me sorry. I let the stray tear fall from my eyes. Jake comes over to me and wipes away the tears. "Come back with me, little one," I nod yes, letting the weight of my head rest in his hand.
